Riba overdose question...

by Kathy73, Feb 25, 2009 01:13PM
By mistake I took two doses of 3 pills each night before last. After a difficult night with sleeping and stomach upset and yesterday having a very bad headache that couldn't be relieved, I seem to be fine. Anyone else done this? Ramifications?

I think you’ll be fine. I was prescribed 2 grams (= 10 x 200 mg pills) daily for 96 weeks with no known adverse reactions. I’ve read that during the initial PEG-Intron trials, a patient intentionally ingested 10 grams ribavirin without any major problems. I sure wouldn’t want to try that, but it demonstrates the threshold of toxicity is way up there. I used to have that link saved, but I’m unable to locate it now; if I find it, I’ll post.

Are you using a pill box? They really help to keep track of your meds; they can be found in almost any drug store.

Take care—

I've done that.  I had about the same reaction as yours.  There were no long-term problems.  I think you can relax, you should be ok.  Bill's pillbox idea is a good one.  Good luck.

Yeah, I've started to use the two week pill box. I put my vitamins in one week side and the evening pills in the other week side. I put my morning pills in a pill container in my purse because I can't eat when I first get up and have them with breakfast at work. For whatever reason I was resistant to using the pill container. Not any more! Anyway, than you both! Your answers are what I thought but its nice to get confirmation!

I did it once. It was a little uncomfortable, but apparently no harm done. I called the Roche nurse and after being asked many questions having nothing to do with accidental overdose, she suggested I contact my physician.

I don't expect it to be an issue in the future. . . as I've most certainly taken my last riba.

regards,

Max
