Riba/sovalti combo

Hey all it's been awhile since I've been on here life sure gets busy. This week my husband starts his treatment. We're not sure what to expect from side effects? Our doctor says fatigue is the main effect. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this treatment? What was their experiences with it? Cure rate? Anyone with cirrhosis been cured from it? Any knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance :-)

Yes
Quite a few have cirrhosis including me - caused by decades of living with this virus

There's another group Cirrhosis of the Liver that has good info and people who are so afflicted post to both of these groups

Good luck with the treatment!

Thank you everyone for all the knowledge and intel. We are on week 3 of the tx, yesterday we went to the doctor and his blood work looked good besides for some anemia which is common. We don't know the count for the viral load yet until Tuesday but dr thinks he's clear of virus by looking at his blood work.
Before tx ALT was 70 AST was 65 viral load 250,000.

3 weeks into tx ALT 30 AST 30.
We are thrilled but there is still a little fear of it coming back as the last time he treated on peg/riba combo it cleared fairly quick but after 1 month off the tx it was back. He has cirrhosis as I know this slums the chance of the cure rate, I am just praying to God this is the one that cures him. Do any of you have cirrhosis?

Hi and welcome back
Yes.  There are quite a few of us that have done Sovaldi and Ribavirin and have been cured.  I took it for geno 2, 12 weeks.   Is your husband Geno 2,  or is he 3?
Most of the meds have similar side effects, but each of us are individual in relation to the experience.
Typically fatigue tends to be universal so his best approach would be to listen to his body, and rest when needed.  Basically I can only give you a generic overview as everyone is different.
As mentioned some of these may occur, and then again not.  Fatigue, nausea, brain fog, to name a few.  Rather then give you possibilities, these are some tools to help you thru.
Eat often, 3-5 times a day, try to exercise or just walk briskly, nap and sleep often, try to keep busy as distraction helps to eliminate inward focus, and anxiety.
Feel free when hubby has unresolved or bothersome issues to post, as we can help get him thru those.   So happy that he is now able to get Tx, as many will be right there with you for support.
Take 1 day atta time and he will be great.
Take care
...Kim

Sorry I missed this earlier.

I am also on Sovaldi and Ribavirin.  My main side effect is fatigue.
That is complicated by the anemia from Ribavirin, which does not bother everyone, but makes for. double dose of fatigue for me.  Men seem to lave les sides than women, or, maybe, just tough it out and don't mention them.

There are some on this combo who said they experienced headaches, but one went on to say it was like her sinus h'aches, so she wasn't sure which kind it was.  Not many have mentioned it, but some.

The amenia I mentioned CAN be a side of the Riba, but a) is not always b) many times does not drop far enough to present a problem.

He should drink 1 oz water for each lb of weight up to half his weight, exercise if he can - even just a little walk in the fresh air helps, eat a liver friendly diet (low sodium, low sugar, fresh friuts, veggies, white meat, fish and good fats .

As for SVR, that depends on genotype, prior response to tx, IL28B, allele (CC, CT, TT).

What are his stats?  What was his ALT, AST AND Viral Load at the beginning of treatment?

Hope this helps.   Be his Compliance Police so that he has every chance of succeeding this time - as, like my DR said, it doesn't matter what the percentages of SVR if you are one who SVRs.

Y'all hang in there and keep on keeping on.  Pat
