SOF400mg and GS5816 w/ RBV

My husband has been in a  phase 3  study for about a week.  He is taking SOF 400mg, GS5816 and RBV, the purpose of this study is to see if the meds are effective in treating people with cirrhosis who have not undergone a liver transplant and to evaluate the safety and tolerability.  It is an open label study so we will know what is going on.  My husband is in the group taking those three drugs for 12 weeks. There are two other arms in this study without RBV.   We were shocked when he got the call  for screening and very thankful when they said he was eligible for the study.  There are only 225 people in the US in this study.  We are hoping this is the one as he has treated three time before and relapsed each time.  He is genotype 1a and has had cirrhosis since 2006.

The study doctor said they have had very good results with these drugs.

Just wanted to update.  My husband received his 4 week EOT and it is NOT DETECTED!!  These drugs are truly miracle drugs; GS5816 and Sofosbuvir. We are so thankful. I am still trying to process this.  I feel so grateful that he was given the opportunity to be in this trial.  It is my understanding that Gilead is testing this combo in all genotypes. I hope this gets FDA approved soon.

My husband will get his 12 week EOT done at the end of next month and I will post those results when we get them. He is feeling better and has more energy which is great to see!

Thhanks for the response.

It IS always nice to have others travelling them same path to discuss everything with, BUT you - and Cindy, for that matter - are not alone, even if many of us are on different meds.  You have a family and support system here.

Goodluck to ALL of you who are in any arm of this trial.  Praying SVR awaits you all at EOT, just as I pray for it for all here.  Pat

Only reason I didn't comment here is that I'm not doing the riba, just the other 2. I take 1 pill a day that's it. Also I don't have a cirrhosis or a liver transplant. But she is more then welcome to join the forum we are in.
I'm hoping to meet people here going thru the same thing so I don't feel so all alone. Have no family close or friends.

See Stronglady's post about this same trial med.  There are several on there reporting on the same trial meds.

Good Luck and SVR for your husband!   Pat

Good evening Cindy and welcome.  Riba still seems to be holding on, even tho reports of this med have been somewhat skewed.  It's still included in this current cocktail of drugs in certain cases despite its bad reputation.
It seems to appear in my opinion whenever the word "Cirrhosis" is part of the equation.  Am hoping down the road it's demise will follow in the footprints of the foreboding Interferon.
Until then, its all we've got.
Best wishes with your husbands current clinical trial.  No telling where we would be without someone stepping forward to protect our future.

Just hang in there, someone, on a different thread mentioned those meds, so I'm sure you will hear from others when they see your post.  Pat

Thank you Patra.  This is a great place for answers.  I was wondering if anyone else on the GS5816 trial are also taking Riba?  Are they testing all genotypes with GS5816 and SOF?   I think interferon is a thing of the past but I'm not sure what is going on with riba.?

Thanks again patra.

Just wanted to welcome you to the Forum and say that I also hope this is THE one for your hubby.

This is a great place for answers to questions, support and care.  Don't hesitate to ask, if you all have questions.  Someone on this site has probably already 'been there and done that' or has read a study, etc.

Best and good healing! Pat
