SVR and liver function

by shastri20032003, Jul 06, 2007 12:00AM
Hi Friends,
This question has been at the back of my mind for  some time.
Once you are SVR,what is the effect on the condition of the liver?. I know the virus stops attacking the liver and prevents further damage but does the condition of the liver improve over time?
Can things go back to a semblance of normality just like before you had hep c over a period of time?
Tx improves the histology of the liver but by how much?
I know we do have to take care and be on a healthy diet and avoid alcohol but can we ever be hyper and indulge in hyper sports and activities?
Will we still have relatively significant symptoms which indicate all is not well with the liver?
Any inputs will he appreciated
Regards

There are better informed on here than me , but from my G.I. Docs statements,  The liver is one of the few organs that can heal itself.   I  have not heard or read any comments saying exercise is bad at any stage  before, after, or during tx. Some on tx are working construction, etc. jobs through it  but others cant because of sx.    I enjoy a beer or two  but must stop 4-6 months before my doc will start my tx.  She gave me encoragement saying, I don't have to stop a beer or two Forever ,,just a year or two !    Yours is a  good question and I will be waiting ,like you, for responses.

The current thinking is that the liver does recover from fibrosis damage after the insult to the liver [HCV] is removed, at least from damage in the pre-cirrhosis stages. My clinic has observed several dramatic recoveries from late Stage 3 to early Stage 1 over 24 months. No question that some sensible lifestyle management helps the process. No booze, sensible diet etc.

Its nice to know that once you slay the dragon, you can actually get a good liver back too!
