Saturday Hurricane checkin and open post

Good morning all, hope all are safe and well.  Charley gave us here in Charleston some strong winds and lots of rains.. looks as though those to the north will get the worst of what's left of him.. Surfers are out hitting the waves already !!.(and I'm sure my son is among them)..rip currents are bad though! In addition to the hurricane, now, as usual is the threat of tornadoes..
Feel so awful for those in the hardest hit areas of FL.my heart goes out to them.....having been thru Hugo (and Floyd)..I KNOW  how bad it is..and every September, it crosses my mind again..
Everyone keep sending positive energy to those in FL..coping, and cleanup and recovery will take awhile.. and there are 2 more out there to keep an eye on..
Those in FL who can get thru, please let us know that you are OK..   I know last night was shot night for most on Tx..and this can't be helping the Sx..as stress makes everything worse! .Take a few deep breaths, take care of yourself, amd get some rest.
I am grateful for each of you on here is has been so kind and always willing to share info and an encouraging word..  Love youse guys!!!!

Hi everyone,
As you know the Tampa area dodged the bullet so I and all my folks are fine. we just have a lot of dreary weather but thank God that's all it is.

I had to go in and assist with some storm related stuff (I work for local government) and may be going down south Monday to help our sister counties.

Some of my friends were in the Port Charlotte area and had some very heavy damage. No injuries and it's just "stuff" that got damaged but when your home is crunched you feel completely helpless.

My friends said at the height of the storm it was like someone was trying to pull open the doors and tear off the roof. They were in a pretty solidly built house and said they could feel the walls pulsing with the wind. They all hid in the downstairs bathroom praying while this was going on. Trees were knocked down, powers out, part of the roof is gone, their screen room flew off to parts unknown but thank God they're ok.

I hope everyone came through ok, I know this affected folks in lots of places. Check in when you can and be safe.

I am getting  heavy rains and very high winds today.. got nothing yesterday.
I'm north of Tampa in Pasco County.
My in-laws living in outskirts of Orlando near Sea World have no power and interupted landline/cell phone service. What little I could  find out from them this morning was wide spread tree uprooting , derbis in roads, roof damage. Large signs down etc.

Hey Everyone ! I just got power back . It went out at 8:30. I had some tree and plant damage from strong winds and some water. But for us this was nothing compared to Florida. My heart goes out to you all. Thanks for worrying and thinking of us!Luckily the tides was just starting to go out when it hit!

Ring/Jamie I'll call when my phones get charged up!

Gulfcoast,,,Glad to hear all is well for you and your family. Yes its going to be sad for people that have damaged homes or no homes but of course our lives are the most important.  I remember going through one of them and it sounded like a freight train coming through my living room and we all were also in my bathroom.  I had no idea how scary that could be so my prayers are with everyone!

Sher,,,,I had no idea that you were going through same thing also!  I'm so glad you and the fam are ok and you got your electricity back!!

Well it hit where I live in Kissimme FL.  Bad, bad, bad ... eye of the storm and hours of scary stuff. Trees all down, roofs all over, no power, water, phones, cell phones etc. Had to evacuate.  Never thought I would live to see all of this.  A real nightmare but things can always be worse :))))  First time in 44 years in this area.  We have evacuated the area and have no idea when all will be restored.  Feels really good to shower:))

We dodged the hurricaine bullet in Tampa but I have relatives in Port Charlotte. Some of the family went down today with plywood, a generator and other supplies. There is no cell service in the area but they can drive out and down the interstate and then they have service and can call. They say it is incredible and looks kind of like the aftermath of Andrew. I am very thankful I am done with tx and was able to participate in life and help others. It is a true blessing to be finished!
Keep safe,
Barb

hey.. yess.. as sher said,, we're OK here in the Chas area..it could have been bad here if Charley had moved to the left a little...but.. I lost power for 2 or 3 hours this morning.. and, just after it happened, got a call from a darling friend who is very far away and was worried about me..brightened my day considerably!!  Sun was out for awhile, but then turned dreary...  I am totally drained of energy today.. I think Charley sucked it all out of me as he blew by!!  Maybe that's why my horoscope said that I am supposed to take it easy and rest today !!!.   Take care all... hope everyone else in FL checks in soon and that all is well..good energy comin at ya....

The secret to the DIY dilemma is to thoroughly screw up the first project thet the spouse proposes. I mean make it uneven, splotchy, while all the time presenting a perplexed smile and saying "I'll get the hang of this soon. But I must go get more materials now, Give me the checkbook, hon." Always admire the work on the telly shows when the wife asks you to comment. Say, "I bet I could do that with enough practice". NEVER say, "I could do better than that". If none of this works, offer to show the wife how to "do things". ALWAYS screw it up. Saw the board crooked, measure wrong, etc.

Soon, you will be dismissed as "a good provider, but incompetent around the house"...

Good morning.  I just can't get rid of this feeling of helplessness, especially when we're not hearing from some of you in the danger areas.  How many do we have in those areas, does anybody know?  I'm sure that somebody out in the Florida area knows who all is there.  Can we get a list so we know who to look for?  My memory isn't good at all, so I can't remember everybody...

SHER, WHERE ARE YOU?!

Ringer, yeah, we have the fires out here in CA, and one on the hill (Mt. Hamilton) where my brother lives.  I've been watching it from my front porch and I think they may have it out soon.  But the fires are nothing compared to these storms.  You can replace personal belongings, but you can't replace your friends.

I know there is over a million homes without power and some of you can't get in contact with the Forum, that's why I feel that a list of all those in the danger areas is important.  Can all of you help get a list going?

Prayers,
Jamie

morning all....same as carol said, i hope you all are okay...sounds very bad though after reading the cnn weather site, many many deaths in florida....i keep praying for you all in the path of this hurrican. Carol and Sher, (and anyone else around charleston, sc or nc) now my worries are with you two, as it is right at both your doors now, even though downgraded.  please be safe, although i know you are both seasoned hurrican survivours....please don't take any chances...

what a bizzare few days, on top of this hurrican, a typoon hit china thursday/friday causing incredible loss there as well....and then the huge forrest fires blazing in california and british columbia,canada...as well as tornados and wicked thunder storms here over this past 4 days.

wishing that you are okay and that sides are bareable with all this added ....please check in for roll call when you can, although with so much power outage i imagine it could be awhile..until then you are in our thoughts
