Search for a Heptologist

I have hepc and cirrohsis, portatal hypertention. I am using a GI doc who started tx. I developed amonia (ammonia) levels over 160  after only the second injection.  She stopped tx and I spent a week in the hospital. My numbers are back up to almost baseline and whe suggests tx in a couple of months again. (very difficult for me being out of work Job wont let me be back on light duty and wants me to keep taking call and working overtime Im an RN.  Buts thats another story)  I want to find a Heptologist in my area rather than a GI with questional hepC and Cirrohsis experience. I cant seem to find any one on the web but am willing to travel some.  My insurance said they would upgrade to specialist since none in my network. Does anyone know of a Heptologist in the West Palm Beach or Del Ray area of S Florida?  I you post a message I can send you my e-mail to maintain confidentuality.

Not far from you.  My prior research for the most experienced hep docs pointed me to either UMiami or UFlorida (Shands clinic in Gainesville).  Decided on UM for a consult.  The doc there designed treatment and worked with my GI to execute the plan.  GI was cool with it, UM guy played along.  Tough to get a quick appointment, but worth it.  You can find the numbers at the universities' web site.  Look for department of hepatology.  There are some local GI's who have more hcv experience than others, but UM and UF are hotbeds of hcv knowledge.

I agree with FLGuy.  Try going to UM or Shands.   I personally love Shands.

I just did my 4th shot tonight. I'm so ready to bag my GI. Did a google search for a hepatologist in WPB area the other day and came up with one name. Haven't been able to find out anything about him  yet. Someone I trust with my life suggested that I call UM and find a better doctor asap
