Here's an idea, if you're getting old or on interferon. Keep some salt nearby, like on your nightstand and pop a couple of grains in your mouth every now and then. good luck

Saliva is a key element in oral homeostasis, oral function and maintenance of oral health. Dry mouth has multiple oral health consequences and affects quality of life. The incidence of dry mouth and its public health impact are increasing due to the aging population, the effects of some systemic diseases, and medical management and commonly prescribed medications that reduce saliva production. In this paper, we review the causes of dry mouth and its impact on health. The role of dental providers and current management of dry mouth is presented.
i lost 4 teeth (dead and had to be pulled) within a year or two after TX... friend of mine lost a few teeth also.. i think dry mouth issues def had something to do with it, plus i have soft teeth to begin with, if i do TX again i will absolutely pay more attention to my teeth
I used Biotene some, but never did like the taste. I had my teeth cleaned more often during tx and my doctor checked for decay. Saliva is helpful to prevent bacteria from beginning decay and since saliva all but dries up on tx it is important to do something to increase saliva. It was Tic-taks for me.
frijole
Rocker mentioned mouth guards keeping the mouth moist at night. I wear retainers every night or my teeth will shift and the damn braces about killed me so I wear them.
I hate to jinx myself but I am not having a decay problem post TX. The only time my teeth ache is when I whiten them 2 or 3 nights in a row. Drinking coffee & smoking I want my nice straight teeth white..............vanity LOL. I can't do anything about the quickly aged, wrinkled look but I can have white teeth LOL
Denise
and it leaves your mouth feeling fresh
I also use a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in a1/4 cup water as a mouthwaash....very cheap and very effective
I started using Act total care and my tooth sensitivity stopped almost after the second day. Just don't swallow even spit for 30 minutes after you rinse. It made me sick-er. And rinse w warm water 30 mins after the initial rinse. I got a wonderful dental check up this year about a year into the product-the best in all my years since Tx
Thanks for the comments, I will step up my dental care.I've never really had a problem with my teeth. I use natural tooth paste but I will try your suggestions . Thank you all Bill
I had problems develop early on with sore teeth and gums. It seems to coincide with low WBC's for some reason. It's gone again now, but I still use a recipe a friend of mine got from his oncologist for daily mouth care...1 tsp. soda and 1 tsp. salt in a quart of water. Rinse mouth after each meal and when ever possible. So far no more sores and sensitivity. I use a biotene spray at work to keep the funky breath at bay. Now if those sores in the corners of my mouth would take a hike!
USE A natural toothpaste "natures gate"
I, too, have been suffering with sores in my mouth and very sensitive teeth since I started tx. Brushing my teeth burns my mouth, I hate it, and that is using sensodyne toothpaste. I have never had problems with my teeth before this. Anyway, as with many of the sx, during and after tx, here is hoping that they go away soon.
Best Wishes,
Wilful
I use biotene mouthwash. When they got really bad,I rubbed some stevia on before bedtime.....no more soreness by morning.

I have a partial upper dental plate....and i find if i sleep with it in at nie my mouth stays full of saliva...i bet a those bite guards woould work too....sounds gross, but my teeth are fine....i cannot sleep with the partial in....my mouth gets so dry its insane
I too have had major dental problems since starting Interferon. Dentist says my mouth is too dry, teeth were rotting. I'm still going to the Dentist, trying to keep my mouth moist, chewing gum, sugarless candies and drinking lots of water.
Good Luck - Lynne
Your dentist can prescribe a special toothpaste from Colgate. It has a higher amount of the magic ingredient in Sensodyne. I used it last night after eating a popsicle and getting the tooth pain. It was the first time since starting TX, though. I will need to use it for a few days or a week to get it to work. A dentist can also put the stuff on your teeth in his office. I had that done once, cost about $40. I forget how long it lasted. I'd go with the toothpaste, personally, it's cheaper. Might be $16.
No problem with my teeth here....just an awful taste in my mouth when i wake up...and i mean awful...so bad i have to run for the tooth brush..
Interferon has been known to highly magnify difficulties we are having and you could have the beginning of peridontal disease. Whether you tx or not this may need your immediate attention. Did you see a dentist yet?
