i got stuck with thechest pains and shortness of breathe also, they did a heart and lung workup which was ok, my h&h is 31 & 11 which is lower than my body likes but they say it isnt low enough for sx, they should try it then tell me its ok. I learned to chill when i got the pain bad or when it goes to my jaw.it does help

Did you try a few kinds? When I first started I was completely fogged out and exhausted from them...but after a while got totally used to them. At first I was like oh I hate this no way I can continue - but they did level off as my body got used to it.

I feel so bad for you I wish there was SOME magic thing I could say or do you know? This disease sucks - but there are awesome people to make us feel better when we are down.

I get the google alerts for HCV, and there were 2 articles today.  One where Okalahoma is expected to legalize tattoing to reduce the incidents of hepatitis C because of the use of non-sterile needles, dye, faulty authoclaves, etc.

Also, a large article (forgot where) where there is an increase of fire fighters and paramedics with HCV, failing livers, etc.  Most were working in the 1980's and blood borne issues weren't known.

Articles like this help remove some of the stigma of this disease!

Sorry to hear you’re having so many sx. I am going to assume a cardiologist prior to beginning treatment cleared you. If I were you I would make another appointment right away just to see if they missed something. Interferon can exasperate many pulmonary diseases and cause similar symptoms.

A cough is a very common sx but If l were you need to find out were the blood in the flem is coming from. It’s most likely just an irritated dry throat but you still need to have it checked.

Digestive system problems are common as well; the treatment can kill good bacteria in your stomach and through everything out of whack, try some pro-biotic supplements and some active culture yogurt to help restore balance.

Diarrhea can become very serious when on this stuff so keep your doctor informed.

Hope you feel better,

Mark

Sorry what you're going through but drugs for drugs for drugs is very common on treatment. I took no drugs prior to treatment and now literally have a chest full.

Upper respiratory problems are also quite common and perhaps that's why you're spitting up some blood, and they'll probably give you some kind of cough suppresant, although I think it should be checked out first by your doctor to rule out anything serious. Same with the chest pain -- someone should take a look at your heart -- at least do an EKG -- and not just dx by phone.

Kalio says "thank heavens it is temporary" -- I think a more accurate statement would be "thank heavens it's *usually* temporary*. Read some of the posts by Double Dose or others who continue to have symptons -- sometimes new symptons -- post treatment.

It's been stated that interferon triggers symptons flying under the radar, which is true. But that doesn't mean you would have gotten these things anyway. Once you immune system is suppressed all sorts of things can happen to the body that might not have ever happened without the treatment drugs -- or certainly not happened for many, many years.

Treatment has its risks which in my opinion are often understated or ignored by treating doctors when advising their patients whether or not to treat. That's why it's important to do your research and get the full story before making a decision to treat or not.

I was a victim of the anemia - I went from a 15 to a 9 in a little over a week. It was by far one of the worst things I ever remember going through.  I was so physically and mentally exhausted that I would faint (literally) if I went to stand up. I couldn't breathe and was so exhausted there are just no words to describe how I felt.

However, as Cuteus said above - the Epogen saved me.  It takes a few weeks to work so you MUST monitor your CBCs carefully and often. You can continue onwards with treatment much easier if you are not having such horrible problems. Not having enough oxygen in your blood is a serious thing. Anemia sounds so easy but I promise you it is NOT something to scoff at.

Do you have any idea where you stand? What your hgb is at?

First of all DONT fall into the TRAP - you are NOT alone...there are a lot of great, decent, loving, caring, compassionate, intelligent professionals right here with you with this disease. There is no reason that you should suffer a "stigma" but unfortunately, the UNeducated in the world force us to.

The best way to combat them is by educating them if possible...but not so easy to do.  It does s*ck but as long as YOU MAINTAIN A POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON YOURSELF it doesn't matter!

When I first was diagnosed I was horrified! Then even a friend of my father mentionned his wife had it and all of a sudden my dad looked at me differently (but of course I EARNED my reputation with my family as the blacksheep LOL).

I have an ex just like yours - in and out of the state paid vacation house all of the time. Was very absusive and almost killed me once. I've moved on pretty much now and realize nothing I do will change him so I've let it go. Once I was able to forgive and realize his disease caused all of this it helped me to let go. I care what happens but...it won't control anything in my life anymore.

Are you on a good AD? I've found that they have really, really helped me and I plan on staying on them for a long time. Apparently I needed them for the last 20years and never knew it.

Try to stay positive. Nothing is that bad that we can't be who we are and live to our expectations  this disease is NOT forever.

how is your hgb? chronic anemia can cause adverse cardiac events, sometimes severe. If you have the propensity to develop cardiac problems, you don't need to go very low in the hgb to develop them. insist on epogen if your hgb has fallen considerably from your baseline.
I had no upper respiratory problems in 72 wks of tx but I only had 1000mg of riba. You are taking more than enough to cause hemolytic anemia.
