Serum ferretin level before treatment

by mike716, Jun 24, 2008 02:10PM
Dr. Dieterich, I have a serum ferretin level of 280 ng/mL by blood test. I haven't started treatment yet. Should I get this level down before starting therapy? Is serum ferretin indicative of the damage going on in my liver? Does it contribute to it?

Thanks.

Mike

Ferritin is more a non specific marker of inflammation than a measure of iron stores and is often elevated in HCV. Forget it that is not really very elevated at all. Over 2000 is something that I would discuss, but 200's is nothing to worry about.  Good luck Get treated! DTD
