Sex and Hep c

Has anyone ever gotten Hep c from just sex alone? I mean without any other risk factors involved?

I have had HCV for nearly 21 years. Unknown of course. March will be 2 years since I found out. My hubby of almost 6 years was tested after my positive results came back, and he was Negative. We never used protection until I tested positive and a few times we had unprotected sex after that. I had a cyst removed from my ovaries and half of my ovary almost 4 years ago. I bleed unknown sometimes.
Tomorrow will be 6 weeks I have been off TX. I am cleared. Hubby was tested, he is still negative. I dont think sex is a very possible way of getting HCV. Unless both parties are bleeding.

Good luck..

I really can't buy it either since my wife of 32 years does not have it. We had and raised five children who do not have it. When we used birth control, it was the pill. I have had the disease for about 40 years.

MPO is ev1 should use condoms unless in monagamous relatioship,to stop spread of all stds, but i do not judge people who dont of course.
i was with a guy for years who had geno type 1a and i have 3a and we never gave each other our geno type, back then we didnt know we had different geno type we just thought hep c was hep c.we were never careful cos we thought we didnt have to be.

as for my other sexual partners from past from what i know iv never given it to any1 via sex but it was safe sex most of the time.

my sister has had a few guys with hep c in her life, she is negative and she is still negative and she didnt have protected sex with them, she even had 2 kids to them and she and kids are fine.
i think u should u condoms if your worried about gettin it.

Xenigma, I think you said it best. Just want to add that the incidence of female to male transmission through sex is just about non-existant. Male to female has a higher risk. People who have multiple sexual partners are more likely to meet up with someone who is positive but they are also more likely to have openings in their membranes to allow the virus to get in to ther bloodstream. Non-monogamous couples should always use protection.

I agree with you, Trish.

Ditzy, did those 3 test negative for HVC prior to having sex with you?

I'm not buying it.  There are numerous examples of couples on this forum who have had unprotected sex for many years and their partners do not have HCV. The chance of sexual transmission is so low - 5% or less - that either there's something about the sexual activity you engage in that's causing a blood to bloodstream transmission or you all engage in high-risk behaviour together such as intravenous drug use or share drug paraphernalia. If they have different Genotypes than you do, they didn't get it from you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
yes they have but the percentage is very low.
(Articles I've read ranges from 1-2% to 10-20%)

I do believe (IMO) that EVERYONE has other risk factors.

(Dentist, surgery, manicures, pedicures, us baby boomers getting our vaccines when we were younger, and others)  I also believe that the dentist office (especially for us baby boomers) were a route of transmission.  As time goes on we will see more and more possible routes of transmission.

What most people don't understand is that at times
semen has blood in it (usually benign) but also,
women can get small tears in the vagina which bleed a bit.
Not enough blood that we would even notice.

This happens because of dryness (menopause), not leaving a tampon
in long enough during menses, (Or using the wrong absorbency tampon)
Rough sex or all day sessions can also cause dryness and irritation.

Right now they say it is caused sexually through either rough sex
and multiple partners.  If one person get's it through sex (rough, rape, or multiple partners) then it is an STD.

There (in time) will be more studies done on contracting HCV this way and
hopefully everyone will be truthful when asked about high risk behavior when being
dx'd with HCV.  A lot has to do with your genes/immune system and how taxed it is.
We fight viruses and bacteria daily.

The stigma of HCV is from IVDU not STD's.

All in all, wear a condom to be safe especially when with a new partner.

Your chances of contracting it this way are very low but not 0%.

I also want to say that I've been married 25 years and my husband always tests negative.
We use no protection, never have.  My 2 children (In their 20's) also test and they are negative as well.  They both test for all STD's including HBV,HCV.

Now I will get negative feeback from my comments but I stand by what I've just said 100%....

Hey! Umm... all I know is my mom has had HCV for about 4yrs now and has had uprotected sex with her boyfriend ( He knows) since she found out she has it. He doesn't. So, I don't know I mean I heard that yeah it could be a slight chance, but it's really a kind of blood on blood thing, yah know? Hope this helps. Keep us posted!

We've already said your chances of not getting it are very good. Therefore your chances of not having it are very good. Your chances of not getting it are the same as the chances of you not having it - very good.

Don't have unprotected sex ever again in your life OR get a hepc test every time you do.

Even if your chances of not having it are very good - it's still possible after all.  Oh yes even though your chances of not getting it are and remain very good.

Quote- What are my chances of not getting it? Really good.
Less than one Percent of chance of getting it and then only if there is blood to blood contact. So dont worry.

Alagirl and Nygirl spelled it out pretty clearly. The only thing I can add is that if a woman is in menses, it could be possible to pass it on if the man has a cut or something.  Rough sex I believe is something that draws blood, therefore could again be dangerous and a possible transmission mode.

The only people I've seen who have contracted it sexually were rape victims. That should explain your last question as well.

Not to sound like an idiot or anything, but what exactly do you mean by rough sex? I have never had anal sex so that is not a risk factor. And as far as I am aware there was never any blood during sex.

Technically, in as much as you can have blood to blood transfer during sex, (or any other activity) you can spread hcv.  since its rare that there is blood to blood transfer during sexual activity, its rare that its spread that way.  risky behaviors during sex are more likely to spread hcv.  by risky behaviors I'm talking about being the receiving party during unprotected rough sex, or anal sex without condoms, that type of thing, those behaviors would be more likely to put someone at risk.  In those instances, or any others that could possibly allow blood  transfer, it would be wise to use condoms, which would make the risk virtually nonexistent.

Everything I've read says < 1% chance of contracting Hep 'C' during sex.  Blood to Blood words to live and die by.

Not by sex alone, but with another person it's a small possibility.
