Sexual Function and Desire during and after Tx; Study from AASLD

by DoubleDose, Nov 14, 2008 08:48AM
I thought some of our members might be interested in this article.  For those of us who have suffered long term sexual and erectile function issues after tx, you are not alone.  The study indicates that some do indeed seem to end up with permanent problems after ending tx, from their baseline standard.  We have seen posts to this effect on the forum, and it seems the origin of their problems may have been the tx, as they had surmised.

Thanks for posting but to put this in perspective, but the main thing I carried from the study is that all problems resolved six months post treatment except for a small proportion of subjects.

The fact that sexual issues were rampant DURING treatment seems kind of obvious for anyone who has treated, and it's almost an insult that they needed a study figure that one out :) BTW this particular study was men only.

Hopefully, this will be just one of many post treatment studies on both this subject and others. And hopefully, they will do more than just study the problems but try and come up with some concrete solutions. For example, I noticed my serum testosterone levels declined during treatment and still are lower than pre-treatment baseline. Is it that I'm several years older or is it the interferon? I'd like to see more (well there are hardly any)  solution-based  efforts to have issues like this looked into. From what I've read, I have a feeling you will strongly agree.
