Sexual Risk

Is HCV transmitted by sex?  It seems a little unclear.  Does there have to be blood present to transmit it or do sexual fluids transmit the virus?

Lastly, is a 3 month antibody test from possible exposure conclusive?  What is considered absolutely conclusive?

Thanks

you have to have blood to blood contact.  It CANNOT be transmitted by bodily fluids.  You don't need a viral load.  An antibody test is sufficient.  If you are three months out I wouldn't worry about it, particularly since it appears there was no blood to blood contact.  I have never seen anyone on this board who got hepc from consensual sexual intercourse or activity.

ps its not polite to ask people how they got hepc - just a tip

wow, i can't say i ever heard a year.  i'd like to think 6 mos is conclusive.  would a viral load test help give closure?  i understand that this can should be positive within a 2-3 wks from exposure.  if no antibodies and no viral load = negative, right?

sexual transmission is rare and give yourself 6 months to a year to see
if you have it.
