Sleep Disturbances

by LindyK, Nov 09, 2006 12:00AM
zzzztime -

I started having sleep disturbances a couple of months after my first symptoms of pain and fatigue started.  Don't have narcolespy.  Had a sleep study done in February, 2005.  Had no sleep apnea but did have restless legs sydrome.  The sleep test said I am getting 89% sleep which is supposed to be good.  I have since resolved the restless legs.  My main problem is sometimes I can't go to sleep or I wake up 4 to 5 times a night.  Mostly I think because I am in some kind of pain particularly if I sleep on my right side my hip becomes very sore.  I  have tried a couple of sleep meds.  The one that works best for me is Ambien CR although that isn't helping as much as it once did.

I can't help but think these symptoms are related to Hep C since I had been pefectly healthy until I became symptomatic suddenly in Nov 2004 with virus like symptoms.  In fact my PCP dx it as a virus until it went on for so long at which time he tested me for all the diseases that involve soft tissue.  Hence, a referral to a Rheumatologist who dx me with fibromyalgia.  At that point, it seemed like no one took any new symptoms seriously and chalked everything up to fibromyalgia.

I never really had any sleep disterbances pre-treatment.  But if you are having them now when you start treatment you will have them even more so. Riba causes it.  I take my riba at 6 am and then try to take the other dose around 4 or 5 but no later.  I have found that if you take it later at night it tends to wake you up and/or make it harder to fall asleep.  at least it did untill my system got used to it.  it still keeps me up if I take it too late. I am usually in bed by 9 and asleep shortly after.  so maybe 4-5 hours before you normally go to bed.  Might help?
