For acidic stomach, I take a big glass of water with a squeeze of quarter/half lemon in it (it's very alkaline), which seems to really help me..
A friend who has just finished 48 weeks tx swears by quarter tspn of baking soda in a glass of water (I haven't tried this yet). Good luck, it's a horrible feeleing on top of the other sides...
Hi Jim. Thanks for replying. I can't take aspirin or ibuphophren (sp?) because I have ITP which is a platelet disorder. So I'm stuck with tylenol anyway. How about Pepcid AC or Zantac OTC? I had my husband's lasagna last night and the acid didn't agree with me. Although the lasagna was delicious. I didn't have anything except for Tums and had read that it wasn't good with tx. So I suffered through it. I just want to get something to have in the cabinet...just in case.
I'd space the antacids at least 2-3 hours away from my ribavirin dose. In fact, a better choice than antacids -- assuming your condition is chronic -- would be a PPI like Nexium or a H-2 Blocker like Zantac or Pepcid AC. Both of which can be taken without regard to the ribavirin. Ask your doc. Liver specialists and GI's should know what is best for you.
As to the other, Tylenol appears to be the most recommeded pain killer on treatment but again, ask your doc how much is safe to take. In fact, bring the label with you so he can do the math if you can't. Aspirin is one of the drugs I was told to stay away from during treatment.
