Some words of hope

Just wanted to pass this on to those who do a lot of worry abot Hepatitis C and its progression. I just got my biopsy results yesteday. I must admit, there was a sunken feeling in my gut while waiting for the doctor's assistant to read the results over the phone.

I went through three treatments and will start my fourth on the 5th. I had two prior biopsies. The first was stage 3, the next was stage 2. Yesterday, I was told that after three years off treatment, there has been no progression at all. Naturally, this was very good news for me. Some people worry a lot about what's going on with the Hep C while waiting for, or off treatment. This goes to show that in most people, it's a very slow progressing disease.

The doctor told me after the last treatment, that even though I did not respond three times, we bought some time. In essence, I could afford to wait longer, but I choose to be treated. One of the main factors of why I did not progress, the doctor said last time, was that I stopped drinking six years ago. I also wanted to mention I take a daily regiment of Sam-E and Milk Thistle. The doctor highly recommends I stay on those supplements. I hope this post will ease some of the fear for those waiting for treatment or letting their body rest inbetween treatments...

beamish - most admirable PCR.  Looks like you are doing the job.

Strator -- sounds like you have a case of superman..   My husband is a carpenter and I know how much that sheetrock weighs.  Sounds like you need to find some help yourself for that work.  Maybe you can use these 2 guys a little more often for the really heavy work.  What my hubby hates the most (he does residential trim) is having to unload the truck from the lumber yard without young help.  Those doors weigh a ton and the arthritis in his arms hurts a lot.  At 56 he is in great shape doing physical labor, but it is wearing out his bod.

I have superman issues myself -- always the working mother, the host for Christmas - that kind of thing. It is hard to see how to get out of it sometimes.  It is expected of me, but only because I have set it up like that.

Hope you have a very warm and merry Christmas

"... everything changed..." So that's why I'm so tired. Took me 50 years to hit 12.

Beamish - Looks like Excellent news!!!YES!!! Hope you're wearin a Holiday smile.
Sing with me all- Droppin logs - on the fire...
Good for you!

Pardon a little psychotic venting - (yes I'm the little psychotic): Been exhausted & crazy busy this week workin - patching, taping, priming, rolling ceilings, walls, finish coats and lottsa trim work. Moving way too much furniture back & forth-by myself - appreciate the work, needed it, and lucky I can work- but every time I work for this guy- chaos. He's never there. Today he sends 2 6ft college kids asks if I can use em. Sure, Thanks....but "DUDE- I been here since Monday, Friday deadline, now I only got 1 bedroom ceiling left!"
Good kids though, fast and Greeaat reach, put em right in middle of room with arched ceilings 2 extension rollers-Okay boys Roll on, Roll off! Slam Bam, ceiling primed.
1 more day to go...Then - Sleigh Bells Ring...

I have always had gum recession and grind alot(got no ridges left!), but...  since being on tx, the wear is accelerating and the dentist said it looks irregular. Also, the ph of the saliva is low, ie: acidic.
Dentist has been applying resin to the really bad teeth.  I hope this helps them survive.

Couldn't tell if it was 700,000 or 7 mil either but either way YOU GO BEAMER!  That is GREAT NEWS you should be VERY excited about it!  :)

Teefs ah.  I have to go and get some patch up work done really really soon.  I wouldn't do a major work right now (for fear of bleeding and infection and stuff) but patch work is necessary cause they HURT.  They've always been big teeth like an Osmond or something that have needed to be maintainned but now ouch.

Once tx is over then I will go and have a serious xray and start a real PLAN I guess.

It's a catch 22.

Veggie I dont think Veneers would be affected very much because they must have been healthy before you had them put on.  I'm thinking that this treatment accelerates cavities and such - similar to doing heroin or something.

I wouldn't use that "chance" as a reason not to treat if you get over the RibaFear though.....it doesn't happen to everybody for sure.  :)

I have a great dentist and go in for frequent cleanings and exams. You've reminded me that I need to schedule a follow-up from some perio work I had last year.

My dentist gave me some RX anti-bacterial mouthwash just as prophy to help keep infection out of the gum areas on tx. I don't seem to have too much dry mouth, which I see as one major factor. Low WBC can't be a good thing.

In summary, I'm on pretty agressive maintenance and follow-up, but no obvious issues.

I'm scheduled for a couple crowns in Jan. Yuck :(

I was diagnosed in 1994 with 1a. I'm sure I had it longer. Ironically, the doctors then were saying "We'll keep on eye on this". I never slowed down my drinking because I was never told to. I was drinking an average of about three double Margaritas per night. I'm an entertainer, and after getting off work late at night, I had to unwind from the stress, so when I got home from work, I went immediately to the blender and poured in two shots of tequila, mix, then got undressed, sat and watched TV for a while, while putting away two more doubles.

I remember doing that and more on vacation and my face and eyes swelled the morning after. It was also not unusual to drink two bottle of champagne while watching a movie. When the Gastro in 1999 (5 years after being diagnosed) told me to get off the booze or else... I immediately Cold Turkeyd and have been off the hooch since.

I will say there are times like Christmas, New Year's Eve, my birthday, etc., that I would love to dive into the booze barrel with my friends, but I don't. I'm not going to lie though, I may have one or two glasses of champagne for New Year's (to celebrate I've made it this far), then immediately shut it off. I guess I'm fortunate I don't have an addictive personality. Actually, I consider myself very luck to have made it this far, considering the very tough childhood I had. When I was a kid, I would lie, cheat and steal. I drank, smoked, did drugs and slept with every woman I could, but when I turned 12, everything changed...

one of the things that really concern me as well, dental issues...I too have a fortune inveted in my smile, 7 porcelain veneers upper and 4 lower..YIKES big bucks!  and if TX were to cause them all to fall out I would die..I am more concerned about teeth (or porcelain covered ones) than hair...It doesn't cost anything for hair to grow back!

Yeah, nice observation, been told like I look like the latina version of her...rather have her dough though then her big teeth. But then after treatment I might end up looking like Granny Clampett, ha ha! Good points you made about the preventative mouth wash, am using Biotene now and it's really good for the dry mouth. I really, really want to my proverbial "ducks in a row" before I partake of that stuff. I have palpitations too - want me to take a bunch of cardiac tests to rule things out. Whodathunk it Goofy, that we'd end up doing all this crazy sh^^!
