Something you can do to help/prevent Anemia

Something you can do to help/prevent Anemia

To Miss Moneypenny - I wasn't able to post this to you since the thread was closed. I do hope you see this.

You may think I'm crazy - but give it a try. Since Procrit and neupogen are not prescribed in the UK there are a few things you can do to help keep the anemia from TX from getting out of hand.

Drink red grape juice. Not the fancy white/peach/flavored - but just plain good old fashioned red grape juice. Grapes to our blood is like chlorophyll to plants.

From health food store get DRIED WHEATGRASS JUICE capsules. Sunny Green brand if available. Just make sure it's the juice and not JUST dried wheatgrass.

It's certainly worth a try to keep you from experiencing any problems or dose reduction. Maybe other people know of other things. Good Luck and Best Wishes on Treatment.

I will keep posting and let you know how it goes.

In 1936, Dr. Arthur Patek reported the results of an interesting study. Fifteen patients with iron-deficiency anemia were fed different amounts of chlorophyll along with iron. It was already known that iron alone cures this condition, but Patek found that when chlorophyll and iron were given together, the number of red blood cells and the level of blood hemoglobin increased faster than with iron alone. No such results for this type of anemia were obtained with chlorophyll alone. My understanding of what wheatgrass

I know many people that take DRIED WHEATGRASS JUICE both on and off treatment. They certainly have not been harmed by it. I never suggested it would "cure" anemia. I merely gave a suggestion that might prevent her WBC's and HGB's from lowering into dangerous levels. It won't hurt her.

I take high offense to your comments and usuage of dildo's curing erectile dysfunction. If this is how helpful suggestions are accepted no wonder so many people have left this site. I for one will not be back.

Please Mrs. O, some members do not have the proper finesse and courtesy that we would all like from everyone at a board, but do not let one person reflect the entire board's views, I get a lot out of your posts, sometimes we have to choose the "ignore" button in our minds if not anywhere else, please stay....your input is valuble...
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
Please don't stop posting, i really appreciate your suggestions and it would be so sad if you were put off by another forum member.

I will also take on board what andy has said, but I am able to make my own decision based on the information I have. I will have a go at wheat grass, your right, it won't hurt, as I wouldn't think of taking it in excess. I sort of read andy's comments as being more ironic than rude, but perhaps I am too naive!!!!

So please stay, you are a valuable asset, it really is important for relative newbies like me to have the benefit of the more seasoned members advice.

Please reconsider your decision to leave and definitely reconsider the source of the offending post. Rest assured that it was offensive to a lot of the members here. He may be trying too hard to get attention. Don't let that drive you away. This board has a lot to offer and take the advice and just ignore the nonsense. Mike

You're just misguided. What does that have to do with anything? Mike

Just find it strange that one would find a simple analogy offensive and then copy the post and post it in another forum. If it was so offensive, why would someone do that? The dildo analogy dealt with who would benefit from this forum of therapy.

Bottom line is those who may think of increasing the capacity of their hemoglobin cells may cause more damage as ones system lacks the capacity to reproduce cells. I would think keeping the cells alive for as long as possible would be a consideration for those considering wheatgrass.

It's curious that you would castigate Mrs. O when you take copyrighted information (Chlorophyll and Blood Regeneration) and post it here. Unless, of course, you are the esteemed Ronald Seibold.

Hardly the first time Mr A. has posted the work of others as his own. I guess we're supposed to think he's smart or something.

you know, I've even stuck up for you when I thought you were unjustly attacked, as when a member (or who knows if he was a member) attacked you just because you live in Canada. But why are you almost always itch'n for a fight? I like humor too, God knows, and everyone here might not share in my sense of humor at times, but I don't feel I'm ever purposely "snide" to people, or overly offensive and sarcastic when I disagree with them. When I disagree with someone, I at least try to do it in a respectful way...you know why? Because I figure we are all just giving our opinions here, as far as I know, none of us are renown experts in micro-biology and/or any other scientific specialty, so we are all just voicing our opinions on these matters, nothing more...Hopefully we are also offering support for one another while we are at it...

Even if we quote some "renown expert" on a topic....5 will get you 10 there usually there will be another "renown expert" with conflicting views. Same goes for studies and clinical trials a lot of the time...finding definitives in all of this is the real trick...I also don't think it behooves a person to "throw their weight around" in terms of their own opinions, why does a person do this? Insecurity? An inordinate need to be taken seriously? Your opinions, whatever they may be, would be a good deal more effective if you were to remove the arrogant, sneering quality of many of them. However, this is just my own opinion, you can fire away at me now if you'd like....

I am a happy guy. We all play fast and loose with copyright material. I even enjoyed your analogy. But, your curt reply to Mrs. O was a bit much.
Blank

If you stand behind what you say it shouldn't matter to you where it gets copied and posted to.

What I find offensive is your choice of words and analogies to express your opinion. You think dried wheatgrass juice capsules are bad for you, fine. I accept your differing opinion, but to express it in such a way is demeaning and uncalled for.

The woman is going into treatment knowing that she has only one choice. I gave her an option which may or may not help. But if drinking grape juice and taking wheatgrass keeps her HBG at 11 and keeps her from going off the treatment meds how can that hurt?

We already know they won't prescribe Procrit or Neupogen. All they will do is dose reduction or stop the meds. Good grief, it's not like I said take wheatgrass instead of going on treatment.

...It would seem the info is what is important, or you looking for a Pulitzer Prize for you offerings in this forum? Some folks around here are very, anal. I will in the future, pre post to you for your consideration and approval.

Avatar_n_tn
Then point was that wheatgrass may cause increased anemia. Short term there may be some benefit, long term it will not as the cells die at a faster rate, and if the body is not producing them, the hemoglobin will drop. This is not an effective way to manage the problem with lowering hemoglobin counts. There have been studies that suggest after a certain period of time, lowering the riba dosage will not have a detrimental effect with regard to achieving a continuing SVR status. This of course would be of interest not only in the UK, but also in the United States and Canada when some docs are unable to code requests for procrit or eprex as these meds are not FDA or Health Canada approved for those suffering from anemia due to the effects of riba.

On this topic of vitamins and herbs, and other supplementation...I went to the docs this morning and was speaking to him about this, he is a renown hepatologist but his specialty was also micro-biology in college...he's intensely interested in this...He feels that these elements seem to work on some people better than others, to varying degrees.... and they really haven't done enough work on this subject to give many definitives... Something I summed up myself just looking around these boards and hearing so many experiences...hopefully, more shall be revealed....

Also, my labs are still pretty good, whatever....

Mrs. O, I am still fairly new with tx. Will take shot 5 on Friday night. I do not go into the sites and post all the time; but I do read alot when I have time. Please for the benefit of us newer people, Please keep posting. Your info. is very valueable to us as is many peoples info is valueable here.

All NEWBIEs: Please do not let this discourage you from posting. It will go away soon; it usually does.

Mr Andy; Why oh Why do you keep doing things to be so facisious here. Are you that UNHAPPY with life. We all have our moments with this disease and get unhappy; but we try not to claw at other people. Most of the time, it is not what you say or post; it is the context you use to express it. You know, its not what you say, its how you say it that is precived(spelling?) by other people. You get more flies with HONEY than Vinegar.

Please try an restrain yourself from doing these things. I feel for you; you must be in alot of pain your behavior tells me so. Try seeking help for that pain.

I am at work right now and have to go. I will check back in after I get home. Hope things get better.

Respecting the works of others, which you repeatedly and intentionally plagiarize and present as your own, would not preclude you from presenting the information here for the benefit of other forum members. Justifications for stealing the works of others and presenting them as your own simply do not exist. You can try, but that dog won't hunt.

My thoughts are my own and are widely published on the subject of HCV, either in the form of speeches or in many publications. I may at times for the sake of reference borrow some words, but at the end of the day, what is important is the information, not the writer. This is not a vanity contest. It may be to you, but doubt to most suffering from HCV, validated info is what they seek, not a copyright notice, unless they have severe anal issues.

errr we go again, as my friend Vicki says.
This forum is such an eclectic display of opinions, humor, experiences and manner of "speaking" that almost everyone finds things they relate to and things they don't. Take the ones you like, and pick your battles on the other ones. We have all sounded like an elitist medical expert, a loving and caring friend, arrogant, humorous, ignorant, insensitive, etc, at one time or another. Some like to shock to get attention, others like to fade into the woodwork. \
Still, MH is the best, as I can't stand those forums where smooches and hugs abound and EVERY single post and comment involves some silly signature icon and quote. But there are people who love those, too. To each their own.
If a person wants to move on, allow them. If they want to stick around because MH is worth it, better yet.

Yes Cuteus, I agree that a forum is more interesting if there are many types of veggies in the stew, and I'm sure that some people have to hold their tongue sometimes with some of my posts... but some people are just overtly offensive in almost every post they make, and many people just get tired of it and no one likes to be this person's "pinata" for the day...

I never liked bullies as a kid and I don't like verbal bullies now...as you know better than most, these are hard drugs on the system, and they can make many people perhaps even more sensitive then they would ordinarily be...I've seen certain people clear many members out of a forum, and where does that get anybody? Since there aren't many rules and regs at this forum, it seems to be self policing in that some (or in some instances) many other members will come to the aid of a member who is being unjustly treated, maybe not the best option but there doesn't seem to be many other options...

Susan, sorry for overlooking the horse's post, sometimes we think that by not mentioning something painful, that the person will not think about it. duh! He/she sounded like a very dear friend to you, and it is sad to see a friend suffer. It helps when you are there to bide them good by, I find it therapeutic.

I don't consider myself a member's only of the "HCV community"; my life is alot larger than just being a person with HCV. If you are the big shot in the HCV community that you brag about I can see why it is so under funded and society lacks empathy for those with HCV. If your speeches and papers have the same personality and attitude as you display on this board, I'm sure you turn off many more people than you attract. Peace
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
Maybe why it is in your country things are the way you describe them.

Who said they were a bigshot in any community. I certainly didn't. It seems there are countries where HCV doesn't require "empathy" and is well funded.

As for all you having some fun, please go for it. Knock yourselves out. As for someone's claim that I "blatantly and chronically plagirize others", the real question is whether any credible evidence has been produced to support the claim. If there is no credible evidence on the "pro"side, any credible or even suggestive evidence on the "con" side naturally carries more weight. It's much harder to "prove" a negative. I sleep well at night, very well in fact.

I've spent about as much time as I plan on this. Andy, please see posts c12 and c15 in this thread for a glaring example of your plagiarizations.

Let's not forget CTON, who was a great resource for many of us here - that is until he tired of Andy's self-delusional rantings.

if you actually have any proof of who is who and what is what, well please by all means produce it, as for now your lack of logic and ability to actually define anything is rather stale. Thank you both for your kind words about "Peachy", my horse. We put her down on December 10th after she apparently had a stroke. It was all very unexpected and shocking. She was fine one minute and then a half-hour later she went down in the pasture and couldn't get up. When the vet arrived an hour later, he said that we had two choices: let her freeze to death overnight, or put her to sleep. I was stunned, to say the least.

But the heartbreak got even worse the next day when our other horse, "Cheyenne" saw the the body. She refused to leave Peachy's side and would even rub her face against Peachy. Then we had to have excavators come out to dig a grave. Cheyenne went crazy and stood at the grave site for a week. It killed me.

That's why we got the goats -- to help Cheyenne. They're great little buddies. Very, very friendly -- like dogs! They wag their tails when you pet them and are quite affectionate. Cheyenne is doing so much better. Hazel and Juny have really lifted her spirits. Ours, too.

It's hard to lose a pet. And even more traumatic when that pet weighs 1,200 pounds! Man, I don't want to have to go through that again for a long, long time.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Susan

Just a few words.

Your first friend is within you.

Turn a stranger away, and you have lost the opportunity to make a friend. Turn a friend away, and you have diminished yourself.

Your ability to be a friend is measured by the depth of your self-esteem.

When your own shadow is blocking the light, step aside and look within.

Respect and Love To All on this board. Yes, Andy even you. God be with you.

what a sad and inspiring post you made, I can actually see your horses because of your description...a good way to end this thread, illustrating that life is short and best to treat each other in a humane way...something I need to remind myself of every now and then as well...the thought of your horse standing by her graveside just breaks me up! Hopefully, you'll write this down for yourself, I know I did and it made me feel better about my dog Sweetie...but then I guess you already did here for our benefit....
