Sore itchy rash on hands.. is it caused by treatment?

Hi all

Since Friday I've had a rash on my hands, mostly the back of my hands.  It's small raised red gots and feels like small blisters on the side of my fingers!

It's soooooo sore and itchy, sometimes feel like a burning sensation!
I got a cream on sat for it but wasn't clearing up so yesterday I got CHLORPHENAMINE tabs and dermovate cream still not helping!

I thought it could be due to wearing latex gloves (allergic contact dermatitis) but today I noticed raised red blotches on my elbows!

I'm not sure now, do you think it could be a sympton of ribiviran or pegasys?

It really is unbearable, can't do much with it, even giving my 5month old daughter a bath is a task with it!

Please answer

thanks

Thank you so much for posting that link Carol.
I must have missed it the first time around.

Yes, Carol is smart to remember that!

Co-writer posted that link a little while ago and it's great to keep it bookmarked for the journey ahead.

The link above was posted here a couple of weeks ago.  It's a handbook on the treatment of side effects of tx.  There's a section on skin problems.

Hiya Kxsx,

To answer your question about whether it's caused by treatment, here's an archived thread with a quote from jmjm, who researched skin problems a lot:

"Just to add a little, many of the skin disorders, especially immune-related conditions like psoriasis are caused/flared by the interferon not the ribavirin.

That doesn't mean "riba"rash doesn't exist, but it does mean not every rash is caused by the riba. Of course, it's possible that the riba could cause skin condition "A" that may morph into psoriasis or something else that then gets aggravated by the peg, but his is just speculation on my part.

What I can be more sure of -- from anecdotal stories on the net, and other readings -- is that both drugs (peg and riba) do cause skin problems in most that treat. And that those with pre-existing skin problems often have the worst time."

What to do about it is another issue. My own advice would be to get to a doc who can look at it, in order to treat it.

NYG will hopefully be around to give some immediate advice. She's been around for a long time, had skin issues and knows how many things have been tried.

(Other than dry skin, I didn't have the friggin' horrible itch but it can drive you crazy, I'm sure. I sometimes take niacin and that's what it does to me.)

I had a similar rash on the palms of my hands and up my wrists.  I took benadryl.  It was gone in a couple of days.

I feel for you as I know how this feels. My rash is all over the top half of my body, if I scratch it gets worse. Gold Bond Triple Therapy lotion has helped to heal the sores without scarring for me.

Good luck!

Many say its caused by the Riba pills, riba rash...
Here in the uk you can get creams on prescription, a good one to get from Dr is Eurax it will help..Some medics will also prescribe a anti-histamine again it will help some and not others.....
Try very hard not to scratch...I know easier said then done...Px
