Sovaldi/Olysio treatmnt with addition of herbs

I just started my S/O treatment and my Chinese doctor suggests to add Chinese herbal protocol for Hep.C to the treatment. Is anybody think that this combination can be beneficial? What about contradictions of using them together?

No way!
I used to see a DO who was also an herbalist and herbs can be very powerful and some are extremely hard on your liver. Plus, it's possible another drug/herb may lessen the affects of the Sovaldi.

Please wait until after your treatment. I asked  the nurse from Solvaldi about it and she said No. And I was just wanting to take COQ10. Any herbs may interfere she said, it has not been done in trials and not to take anything other than main scripts like blood pressure. I would not want to take a chance, These treatment drugs are very costly. Good Luck to you, but this is what we all say in this forum. If they were that great people would be sold on the idea and in most medical information they are just not sure about them.

No herbs! Please check with your health care professionals before taking any OTC or herbs ,they might actually harm you and render treatment useless!,,

There is not much (if any) decent proof chinese herbs help cure Hepatitis C. Further I understand the meds you are taking have not been studied with them. It might seem harmless but trust me this is not something you want to wonder about in retrospect if things don't work out with treatment.

I get how persuasive it might be to think they might help but if it were me I would keep it clean and simple

Hi Jack
Not knowing what "Chinese herbal" medicines we are discussing and knowing the Sovaldi specifically mentions "SOVALDI should not be used with St. John’s wort" while Olysio in addition to saying to not taking St. John’s wort, also adds "It is not recommended to co-administer OLYSIO with milk thistle."

My sugggestion would be to hold off till after treatment and then if you still want you could try the Chinese herbal to heal up your liver with your doctors consent of course.

You wouldn't want to risk anything interferring with the chance to be rid of the virus or possibly making you sick.

Best of luck on treatment
Lynn

There is some evidence that herbs may interfere with treatment so I have to concur with tired

It wasn't till I became ill that I discovered the antagonism between western medicine and Chines herbal remedies but I think you shouldn't take anything that could mess with the S/O regimen
