I tried all of the above. End result is I am back to using evaporated cane juice (sugar)
but do so very sparingly.
Sweet ANYTHING becomes very "addictive" real quick. If I have a desert after dinner
2 nights in a row I will miss it the 3rd night no matter what it was sweetened with....
Bottomline less SWEET you consume the less you will crave it and when you do
consume it the more natural the better metabolically like fruit (nature`s candy...)
The "addictive" quality of SWEET is very well known by food marketers and used
extensively to sell more porducts.
When I drastically cut back on SWEET for a while and than go out for a treat
like a frozen yogurt most of the time I can hardly eat it because it is too sweet.
You can train your palette and the same works for salt.
just my two cents .....
Thank you..but how is the taste?
I use the stevia brand from a company called "sugar in the raw". It is in supermarkets where the sugar is. I was using Now in orange box from health food stores but is is 2x the price.
I didn't realize there were different brands, so thank you. I only tried Truvia, which was plain nasty and I threw the entire box out. Loved the actual Stevia plant, which I tried on a tour through an herb garden. Will look for those other brands and hope they taste better. Wal-Mart, vitamin section -- good to know.
Pure 100% Stevia is what we use in our house. While agave is a nice sweetener is does cause an insulin response unlike Stevia. Most important is to try to avoid HFCS, and other artificial and chemical sweetners. Best of luck to you.
i find all the stevia stuff a bit bitter and find agave more palatable. a nutritionist recommended it to me for its lower glycemic index but not sure of all the health consequences as all the info is soooo confusing. good luck, babs
I use Stevia. Truvia is a brand of Stevia. One thing you need to consider when trying Stevia is this, different brands taste different. You may have to try several brands before you find one you like. I use one that I buy at Wal-Mart in the vitamin section, not the ones in the sugar section of the store. It costs me about $6.00 US. Being a diabetic I have done a lot of research on this topic
Congrats on getting started and NO se.You can type in a seach in the box and find a ton of info that has worked for others. Archives are full here. Just don't get overwhelmed by all the info. lol.
My cousin who has fatty liver disease had a specialist tell her that Truvia is safe. She's on a strict diet and has been a great source for me, so I never looked it up. I use real sugar, cane, guava nectar, or something funky n organic like that.
Good luck dear, Karen
