Staph Question

I heard a rumor that once you are infected with staph once that even after you recover, technically you are still a carrier.  Is that true?  I was infected with a strain of staph in my female organs a couple of years ago.  I worry that my boyfriend is in danger of picking up staph from kissing me, etc. and I worry that when I decide to become sexually active my partner will be at risk.  Is this true?  If it is true then what can I do?
