Start my first dose

I started my first does of Harvoni last Friday and I don't take it with food. I want to know should I eat a small meal with my does or not and also should I take my other med such as nexinum with it?

Yes I was having gall bladder attacks most likely cause by cirrhosis so my gall bladder was removed in 2009.

Yeah they wouldn't do surgery for a minor hiatial hernia like mine unless I start having complications. Mostly I just miss my Prilosec a lot

Yes, you are right.  hope it improves some, anyway.  Surgery is not something to look forward to.  Have you ever had gall bladder surgery?  Did that help at all?

I can hope about reduction in heartburn but I have a hiatial hernia causing the acid reflux and GERD I believe the only cure would be surgical and that has mixed results.

Just a ray of hope to help you through.  I was on Zantac twice a day for many years.  Dr okayed it to be continued with the Sol/Riba, which I took for 24 weeks.  I am now bout 18 weeks post tx and here is my point - for the last week and a half I have only been taking it once a day instead of Twice a day AND considering doing without it except on an 'as needed' basis (not that brave yet).

Hoping this is a positive post tx side effect that you, and others, will have, too.

I am wondering if those on other txs for chronic heartburn have noticed a decreased need for meds for the condition post tx?

Good luck and good treating (only about 6 weeks left?).

Blessings,
Pat

You need to discuss with your doctor they should have discussed with you how to take Harvoni with Nexium

Here is the prescribing information sheet that comes with your prescription

http://www.gilead.com/~/media/Files/pdfs/medicines/liver-disease/harvoni/harvoni_pi.pdf

See table 3 page 8 but here is an excerpt about proton pump inhibitors like prilosec and nexium

Proton-pump inhibitor doses comparable to omeprazole 20 mg or lower can be administered simultaneously with HARVONI under fasted conditions.

Basically you can take Harvoni with or without food per the prescribing info

But if you are taking Nexium you can only take both medicines at the same time on an empty stomach then wait for a bit before eating. If you take Nexium any other way you will effect the absorption of the ledipasvir part of Harvoni reducing the effectiveness of the medicine.

I normally take Prilosec but my nurse suggested if I can to avoid taking it while on treatment to avoid the risk of effecting the medicine so I have been living with chronic heartburn on and off for 20 weeks now with 4 to go.

Good luck on treatment

Congrats on getting Harvoni. I am on week seven and it doesn't make any difference with or without food. No idea on the nexinum.
