Starting harvoni

I am scheduled to start harvoni on February 10 and am getting quite nervous! I have had hep c 1a since a transfusion at birth 29 years ago. I have 3 small children ages 6 ,2, and 8 months old and worry about being able to take care of them while treating. This is my first treatment attempt and according to fibroscan I am inbetween f0-f1. I feel generally pretty fatigued now but always have for as long as I can remember. I will be treating for 8 weeks viral load was 1.5 million any insight would be greatly appreciated! Is this doable? I will have a bit of help in the afternoons from hubby and immediate family are a block away if I need them.

I agree with kOkO.  8 weeks MIGHT be long enough, BUT my choice would be 12 weeks to be sure, instead of 8 weeks and might have to repeat it.  I almost always say  'err on the side of caution'!  This is not like the horrible txs on INF etc, and Harvoni is having a wonderful record, so why not the extra 4 weeks to be sure the virus is gone.

(Pat, why don't you tell us what you really think?  heeheehee)

Good luck and good treating, whichever you choose.  keep in touch so we know what is going on with you.

I'd ask for 12 weeks.

I think once it's in your system, it may change your sleep paterns, but I don't know it by itself will keep you from sleeping.  I take mine at 6pm I just wanted to be home from work initially incase anything weird happened, but I didn't have any unusual reactions or anything and just kept it at 6pm or close to that within an hour or two every day.

The experts say someone in your situation should be cured with 8 weeks or dosing and they have a lot of data to back it up.

Also was going to see what people thought about timing of taking the pill! Night vs morning... I worried if I take it at night that I won't sleep but then if I take it in the morning will I just want I sleep then? Lol so many thoughts racing around. It's been a pain getting approved with insurance it actually came as a surprise that they approved it finally

Thanks everyone for the great tips and advice! This eases my mind a bit still nervous but will deal with one thing at a time! What are the chances of SVR with only 8 weeks? Is that enough time to get rid of this?

I am going into my 8th week of 12 and I've been through many different treatments.  I agree mostly with all who have commented here. I get a mild headache occasionally, and my sleep patterns are a little different.  Both of these are totally manageble.  I also workout everyday, commute an hour to work and work full time. So Harvoni in my case is awesome!! Especially compared to everything that came before it.  Best of luck for full SVR, you are a great candidate for it.

Just pace yourself. Rest when needed. Nap when the little ones nap. Get creative on how to meet your needs during this time. It will pass in no time. 8 weeks is very doable. Symptoms from Solvadi (solvadi within harvoni) should be mild and fleeting. The kids will keep your mind off of worrying. Great news that you are approved.  Start the dosing at a time when your morning chores are all done. Or take it at night when the kids have gone to bed. After taking your daily dose you'll feel heavy and tired for up to a few hours. You'll be fine. ( I didn't do harvoni but did do Solvadi/Olysio) I felt good in the morning just before my daily dose but once I did the dose the heaviness set in. Take it with some yogurt or substantial snack.

I agree with Carl.

If you will look at the other threads on this Forum, you will see on, still on the 1st page, From andyhawaii, headlined 'Harvoni 4 weeks Harvoni...Labs =UNDETECTED' or something close to that.

In it he discussed not only his being Undetected but also how so many other Labs were now noemal or really close to it, and how he is feeling on treatment (tx).

I think it would reassure you to read it.

Congratulations on cbeing approved, good treating, and on to SVR!

Pat

Great news. I hope you beat it. Please post often with how it affects you. Some have said that they feel more energy almost right away. I hope to start tx soon. :)
