Statins and Protease Inhbitors

Statins are one of the most widely prescribed class of drugs. I wondering how many here taking Incivek or Victrellis were questioned about whether they take a statin by the doctor prescribing their protease inhibitor.

I wasn't asked but I have been seeing my GI since 2003. Even when I wasn't treating I would see him once a year so he already knew I was not taking a statin. I was taking anti-seizure medication at the beginning of 2011 and he cautioned me about the interaction between it & Incivek. I don't take that med anymore :)

I remember filling out the usual InTake forms, where I listed all the medications I was on, on the first appt at my Treatment Clinic.
But then, also, when I ordered my meds ( Pegasys, Ribavirin and Victrelis) from the Specialty Pharmacy, I spoke with a very nice Pharmacist, who also asked me to list any and all medications I was on.
When I told her I was not on any other medications she said, "okay, good", and I liked the way she was very careful and specific about that question~

That's probably a safe assumption on your part since the inadvisability of mixing PIs with statins is old news. I'm more curious about what alternatives were offered to people who were taking a statin before tx.

No one specifially asked me if I was taking a statin. But the case manager did tell me to bring in every single drug I was taking, including all over the counter meds and all supplements. In addition, my chart is computerized so, unless a doc outside of that clinic system prescribed a statin, they would already have it on record.

I voted yes, I was asked, even though no one actually said, "Are you taking a statin."
