Still feeling sick... any thoughts on what to ask doc?

I went to the doc with upper right quadrant pain.  The doctor ran these tests so far...

1) Ultrasound on liver, gallbladder, pancrease - normal

2) HIDA scan - galdbladder function normal

3) Tests for Hep B & Hep C - negative

The doctor prescribed Nexium once a day.  When the pain didn't go away, the doc told me to take Nexium twice a day.  The pain will not go away.  Sometimes the pain is so bad I have to lay down.  The doc has scheduled an upper GI procedure.  I am so worried that there is something very wrong - especially with my liver.  What should I be asking my doctor?

Thank you.

One of the girls I work with had very similar problems and Docs told her not to worry scans were ok and it wasn't gall bladder and no to all the other stuff too.  She had an appt on a monday for more tests but that friday she ended up in hospital with having to have Gall bladder surgery.  Apparantly the stones were hiding.  So if you are still having pain keep on your Doc to find out what it is.  Pain is pain.... and there always has to be something causing it.

Thanks to everyone for the help, but I have one worry.  People out here have told me that it is possible to have Hep C and not have any anti-bodies in my blood.  Is this really possible?  If so, what test should I be taking to the doc about?

Thanks.

Congrats on not having Hep C! What a relief.  Your doctor seems to be doing all the right things, I know it is hard to wait on answers and test results but it is a process of elimination and your doctor is doing that. Try not to overly worry about things until you actually know what the problem is. If you do drink alcohol, you might want to stop unti you find out what is going on.

Just a thought, but often costochondritis causes significant rib and upper right or left quadrant pain.  It can feel like something drilling right through you.  Sometimes the costochondritis comes on as a result of an unknown virus, or from autoimmune disorders, like Lupus.  I would think also that heavy physical activity, sports, or heavy lifting could also be a culprit in costochondritis.  You might want to do a google search on the subject.  It is one possibility.

Sometimes you can also tear or strain the abdominal lining and muscles in the stomach floor, so that pain presents as rib/liver, URQ pain.  This also has a name, but I do not recall.  It is most often a result of physal over exertion or strain.  Are you doing any very heavy exercise or lifting (as your name implies) ????

Good Luck!!!

The best news for you is not having HCV!!!!!  Count your blessings!

Double...

No.  No heavy lifting.  Lifter is just a nick name.  Thanks for the input.  I'll look it up.

You doctor appears to be proceeding methodically. I'd just let doc do his job and not worry too much. It may be just a simple gastro problem. And while we'd love to have you hang around, congratulations on not having Hep B or C. BTW no doctors here.

All the best.
