Supplements?

I am currently on tx. Before I started I took milkthistle and that is it. Since I started tx i stopped the thistle. Is there anything I should be taking with tx? I am also on a limited income.

What does everyone else take?

How much does everyone spend?

I also didn't take milk thistle during tx. It's good to get your complex of B vitamins for your nerves. SAMe is good but expensive. COQ10 is also good and alpha lipoic acid. Be sure to take calcium and magnesium. Don't forget your vitamin C. If you have trouble sleeping I have others for that. Good luck to you on tx.

I would reflect what Grammy says and get your Vitamin C and B-complex from www.vitacost.com:

http://tinyurl.com/37hend

Super Gram III(180 pills)  19.09 (1gram C + b-complex)
Super Gram II(180 pills)   17.89 (1gram C)
Frieght          4.99

total 41.97

1 III for breakfast
1 III for lunch
1 II  for dinner (no b-complex)
1 II  at bedtime (no b-complex)

360 pills / 120 pills a month = 3 months supply

41.97/ 3 months = $13.99 per month

That should cover a very important part of your nutrition.
Alacer's c/b-complex are on a time release, easy on the stomach, and don't make you edgy because they don't hit you all at once.

I would also go to the calcium calculator here and figure out what you need:
http://www.calciuminfo.com/calciumcalulator.aspx

I buy the Calcium Citrate with magnesium from Twin Labs:
http://www.vitacost.com/Twinlab-Calcium-Citrate-Plus-Magnesium

If you include in another order, this will cost you $10.19 for 200 caps. My bottle usually lasts for 5 months at 2 a day. That's $2.03 a month. The calcium calculator will recommend a couple Tums, but they have sodium and no magnesium, I believe.

Last but not least, most grocery stores sell wild alaskan salmon in a can (tuna fish size) for a little over $2. Two of those a week should really help you with the Omega-3's if you can't afford fish oil. I've been making a "tuna fish" sandwich with the salmon and really high-fibre bread (as high as you can find, which should be 4 grams a slice). Use mayonnaise made from canola oil, not soy, and squint your eyes on the sweet relish because it has a lot of sodium.

I hope this helps. There is more, but the above items are the place to start. Just the quality basics.

The can of salmon also has a lot of protein.

I eat flax seed for omega 3. I also am a big fan of popcorn with nutritional yeast ( which is loaded with B vit), I eat that two or three times a week. I also have a fruit smoothie every day.  Shouldn't that be enough for B and C?

Do you take brewer's yeast?

Brewer's yeast has plenty of iron. Don't overuse it.

All the best

Popcorn is corn, very high glycemic and my guess is you slip in some butter and salo. Flax seed doesn't come even close to the benefits of the omega-3s in fish oil. It is also very tempermental. I think you are going to rationalize your nutritional needs to match what you are already eating. Fruit smoothie is sugar, albiet fructose.

GoofyDad thinks he is getting his veggies because his pizza has tomato sauce on it.

Anyway, you asked.
From hearing what other people on treatment say, if you can eat anything you are doing ok.

I said "salo", I meant "salt" (ie sodium).

Also, you might be better informed if you made a list of your diet and then showed it to your doctor or NP. I am just a babe in the wilderness when it comes to treatment (not on it) and diet.

The pocorn is the only junkfood I get, it's a replacement for the smack I used to take (just kidding).

The fruit smoothie is made of different kinds of fresh fruit (blueberries, strawberries, or pineapple or melon), banana, flax seed, nonfat yogurt and water.

Are you saying thats bad for you? Unless you count being too skinny I do not  have a weight problem.

One more thing...you might want to stick with the fresh salmon since canned stuff has that BPA plastic thats in all the headlines recently. I don't know how that stuff effects your liver, but it is really evil, it mimics estrogen and wreaks havoc on your body.
