Survey on first shot

I have been gripping about starting TX now that my Thyroid is level and my mother is doing better. At first my clinic said no openings until end of July but I wanted to do it now because I took Family Medical leave to care for my mother after her Open Heart Surgery. I wanted to start when I had some time off of work. Well as they say be careful what you ask for because they called me today and said I could start on May 22nd. That kind of floored me because that is my birthday and I had a big shindig planned out. I know that sounds trite and shallow but is there any way I would be able to go out dancing the next night? Or do I need to call all my friends and cancel as I know I should? I am aware that everyone is different and some do OK but it seems most have a terrible time of it after with severe flu like symptoms. Fever, chills, nausea and all that. I would like to hear  back from people about their different experiences good and bad. I know my family is planning a party too. I guess there is never a good time to start TX.
Also if there is anyone else starting this unfortunate journey around the same time please let me know and we could take it together. I am type 1a doing 48 weeks Riba & Peg.

treat while you can,, you can live without a thyroid, but not without a liver...perspective is everything.

go dancing.....lots feel nothing the first day or week......
on the other hand, if you get sick, well, at least it won't be from booze right??
on the other hand...wearying yourself could bring on side effects...
oh heck...go dance one more time if you want to...you probably won't feel like it for a LONG time once the tx kick in.

I don't think that wanting to go out dancing is trite and shallow, if that's your passion then that's what you do.  If you have to treat on your birthday that sux, however tx is gonna happen on another day that just may be as valuable to you.  May interrupt your Xmas, relatives B-Days etc.  You said it yourself, "there is never a good time to start tx".  The bottom line is it will get in the way of something.  How much will it get in the way, will be determined once you actually start.  If I were you I would start, go dancing and take it from there.  IMO by thiinking that already it's gonna be the pits, it's gonna be the pits.  Sure nobody wants to go through it, I certainly don't, however I don't want this black cloud to hover over my life any longer and I've had yet to have a better offer.  Whatever you decide, you have to know that this may be something that you absolutely have no control over once it starts.  If you are dead set against waiting till July then start.  Good luck with whatever you decide.  God Bless

I'm with you if you start next week.  I'm type 1b, doing 48 weeks Riba & Peg also.  I'm due for my first shot on May 23rd.

I'd much rather go dancing too but I am more concerned about how it will effect my job.  I don't have the most supportive work environment to begin with.  They are going to freak when I tell them I will be starting treatment.  As it is, I've already hired a lawyer in case I need to launch a Human Rights case against them if they dismiss me.  I've put in 18 years of my life with this organization and their employment policy states that if I get ill I am entitled to extended sick benefits but I really don't trust them to follow through.  At this point in time I just want to get on with the treatment so that I can get on with the rest of my life.

Fingers crossed for us both.

My first shot was just like all the other shots - chills and body ache that started four hours after the injection and lasted for the next three days. But it didn't stop me from taking the kids out trick-or-treating the next day, joking around with the neighbors, or doing anything else I wanted. Go to your dance. For most of us life doesn't stop for treatment.

God does have a sense of humor--and you should get ready for it!! because it just keeps on coming during treatment....hee hee
I didn't have any side effects on my 1st shot--but all hell broke loose after that!
I too am geno 1 A-- I started at 1000mg.. riba--& pega..I weigh 130 and after 3 or 4 wks had to drop down to 800 mg riba (weight based) ...because of terrible sides...
So I say --GO DANCE!! enjoy your BIRTHDAY.. !! cause you might not enjoy too much for a while...( hope not though)
DRINK LOTS OF WATER ON THIS TREATMENT!  DRINK LOTS OF WATER ON THIS TREATMENT! even if you don't want too... because that WILL help reduce the sides.

Thank you for your reply. I booked a family suite at Brookdale Lodge for the gals and me to celebrate. It's a cool place up in the Santa Cruz Mtns nestled in the redwoods that has quite a history. Marylyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and lots of gangsters used to hang out there. Its also suppose to be one of America's most haunted places. It was featured on TV as that, but I don't trip on such things. It has a brook running through it and live bands, old school. Quicksilver Mesenger Service is playing that night. I can go back to my suite it I don't feel well, but dancing always makes me feel better. I have a group of girlfriends from High school over 35 years ago and we like to tear it up. What a way to start TX, wish me well.
PS I know I should have put this on the social side, I apologize for that. I'm just freakin out a little about start of TX one week away.

Happy Birthday to you.....you will be a couple months ahedd of me.... Hope you have a great time on your birthday.. I was curious couldn't you start the next day....how does that work? Will you go to the Doctor's the first time and they will help you with the shot?? My understanding is I will get mine in the mail and that I will go before that to learn how to give myself the shot...

Wow!  Really did come at a bad time for you.  Well have a good time, hopefully you won't feel any sides.  Dancing is a good idea, get back and let us know how your tx goes, best to party hard as you may not do that for another 20 weeks or so.  I doubt it, I think you're gonna be fine.  I totally salute your determination and stick to it ness, makes me feel guilty and I wasn't even suppose to start.  LOL   later

I say go for it and have a great time!  You deserve it!  I didn't feel to bad until a few days after starting tx...and remember everyone is differnt in the sx department....you may not have any ~ I hope!

As I mentioned before, the reason I am taking the first date is because I am off work now on Family Medical Leave to take care of my mother after open heart surgery. It has been about 3 weeks and she is doing better but I only have a couple more weeks on leave. By doing this I am using up about 20 hrs sick leave every 2 weeks so I want to multitask and overlap the 2. I take care of my mom M-F and my sister takes the weekends. When I go back to work on June 10th I have asked for a 4 day 8hr schedule and only work Tues through Friday. Giving me 3 day recovery time. I'm a PT on a head injury unit and it is very physical requiring you to think on your feet. I love it and I hope I keep working there. My boss knows and 1 co-worker and they are very supportive. I am doing it Thursday because the nurse is out on Friday and they squeezed me in because they know me and I'm an employee.
