Swine flu vaccination

by budity, Nov 05, 2009 03:49PM
Dear Freinds, I am at the 30th injuction and my WBC number is ranging from 1.2 to 1.9 through several weeks of blood works. I am doing fine for the moment but I am worrying about this swine flue infection. My doctor told me I am in the risk group due to my low number WBC and advised me to get vaccinated....at the same time she told me that she could not garateed me with the side effect of the vaccinatio. In the place I live the status of the Virus is mild but will definately be higher with in short period, as the doctor thought. I therfore would like to ask your advice if you have ever had similar problem.

Many thanks!!

I was told today that "they" are changing their tune on older people not at risk, now they are saying they are at risk.

I got my H1N1 shot yesterday (swine flu shot).  We do fit the criteria with liver disease.  I don't know if your doctor recommends doing it though, while on treatment.  I really am not sure about that.  I would definitely check with your liver doctor before getting it, if you are currently treating.  It has been 15 mon, since I treated.., although I did not clear the virus, so I still have virus levels...   Not too many ill effects for me, with the H1N1 shot..., just a sore arm.   Susan400

About 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of the regular flu.

Yep, Rocker, I'm covered for the seasonal flu as well!  I got that shot last month.  Both of these vaccines were the inactivated 'dead' virus and not the activated nasal mist.

I am on week 43 and my wbc is 2.0 but my infectious disease specialist recommended I get the shot as well as everyone registered at the clinic with Hep C.  So far a sore arm and some nausea 4 hours after the shot but that's about it...the nausea is gone now....but turns out it is shot day too...go figure!  I am kinda relieved I got it though.

Hi,
Our heptologist and nurse have told us that it is totally up to us whether we wish the vaccine or not HOWEVER they did also say that there are more people that die each year from the normal flu than what the expected mortality rate from this swine flu will be.
They also said that since hubby is taking treatment of interferon and ribavarin, this is a virus itself so hubby stands a greater chance of fighting off any virus incl the swine flu than someone like myself whom is not on interferon treatment.

Hope this helps?

I'm curious if anyone out there has asked his/her doctor and/or nurse if they've been vaccinated.  I meant to ask my doc and forgot to do so at my last visit.  I think that might be telling as to how safe the medical community views the shot itself.  Just wondering.
