hi, swollen red eyes sister.
I am getting it with less frequency now. I took atarax for a while and it helped.   then i had cipro for UTI and I did not get eye redness anymore.
I wondered if we might get a systemic, unrecognized blood infection by a bacteria, mine coming from the urinary infection but it could develop from other infections we get?
Atarax really helped me during the bad times.

I guess you and I are in the wee minority, maybe not even listed in the stats, should we tell the drug co so that they make the drs aware IT IS a possibility? You told me of the alidel, that is topical, right? try the Atarax, it is an antihistamine, it is also used for  tx of anxiety and tension and as a sedative. unbelievable. I would check interactions with the mental health meds, tho.

Elidel but its not working and how could it when its internal??? I cant take Atarax, it kocked me out cold for 2 days when I took it once!I wish they would just give me a cortizone shot since I am 5 weeks post tx... The NP at my hepatologist office told me she has seen this 20 times in the past 4 years and it is always women and she is pretty sure its the riba not the interferon, she didnt however give me the fix!.. I was hopeful that someone else had this and knew the right treatment rather than being another guinea pig:)

i hear you...but maybe we all can create guineapig.com for human rodents under various tx.

talk about it making you feel ugly, first thing you see in the mirror staring back and you; under eye bags and puffed red eyelids. nice combo.
I think I will call FDA and report this side. my PA did not think it was tx related, and they are a medical hospital.

by CCgirl, May 08, 2004 12:00AM
Let me know about calling the FDA.. I think if you do that they will want you to release all your medical records to them, thats what Roche wanted and I am not willing to open my records to whoever wants them, it just might come back and bite me in the rear end in the future .. who knows?

Hi,
I'm also having this problem.  It's called Blepharitis, and it's been really stubborn.  My condition has been seen by my GI, PCP, opthalmologist, allergist, and dermatologist; still recently I've been more puffy than ever, and it even hurts.  I've tried oral antihistamine (Benadryl at night/Tavist by day); elidel ointment; Patanol; FML ointment; erythromycin & olymixin opthalmic ointments; Vitamin E oil; Vaseline; and Tears Naturale Free artificial tears.  Not all at once, mind you, and as directed with each med.
Now I'm just using Occusoft eye wash 2x/day,  compresses (as warm as I can take it, 2-3 times ~15 minutes/day), the Tears Free Naturale, and pure white petrolatum (Vaseline) on the skin.  This seems to work as well as anything so far.
I'm 15 weeks post tx, undetectable as of week 12 post.  My GI thinks this problem is still from the HCV and Tx; that there is still Ribavirin and some interferon in my system.

What you  are telling me appears to make sense!! I did some reading up on this and it also seems to coincide with the fact that when I was on Biaxin they got much better and flared back up only 3 days after stopping the Biaxin. I must have an infection; I am going to go to the ophthalmologist tomorrow!! Thank you, Thank You!!! Knowing what this is will help me get it under control .. the only down side of this is according to what I read this really never goes away once you develop it :(

Hi!

Thank you for asking!! That was very thoughtful of you. I am fine - I just have a lot going on lately.  I still try and read the forum when I can.  I was very happy to see when it was back up and that everyone was OK.

How are you?  If you like, I am listed in the directory - feel free to email me.

I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Mother's Day.

Hey and long time no see. But I don't get here as often as I' d like too. I never had the red swollen eyes, except for all the crying LOL. But when I asked my last liver doctor about hte "red palms" he told me it wasn't liver related. Then I saw the doctor at Duke Medical and I just casully asked him. I showed him my red palms and he said YES, it is a sign of liver disaese (disease). They didn't have any studies for me...I was sent by my first liver doctor, because I relapsed. But the doc @ Duke told me I need to go thru tx agagin. So as soosn as we got out of the parking garage @ Duke, I called a doctor Rinedollar..he is in CharlotteNC, abot a 30 minute drive for me. The doctor @ duke said he's supposed to be one of the best! So I see him on the 21st. He's a hepatologist. I already feel much more satisfied because of the literature he has sent to me. Maybe 2nd round will be a "charm"!!!! Prayers to you and much love, Cindee
