Swollen ankles and feet

Anyone have severe puffiness around feet and ankles?  I mean standing up all day is not a great idea for anyone but this was painful.  just wondered about liver function and dependent edema.

When I wake up my fingers are swollen, then after a couple of hours their fine.  However, my feet and legs swell awful.  It started with just one leg & then both.  I also get terrible leg cramps and have neuropathy.  All of this started after tx.  I've talked with my dr. about these and other symptoms and as usual there doesn't seem to be much that can be done about it except for water pills.  I'm sure the 98 degree humid weather doesn't help much.

Good Luck.

Mine are usually swollen in the morning also. I drink my coffe and it acts like a diuretic and my swelling goes down. I think it has a lot to do with how much sodium I've consumesdor how much water I drink the night before.

I try to eat 1/2 a banana every morning.  My potassium, calcium and sodium levels have all been normal on the past 4-5 labs.  I do walking on the treadmill, but it seems to help when I'm exercising as opposed to when I lay off of it.  It seems to cramp more the more sedentary I get.  I can't figure this out.  I have an appt. with a new Internal Medicine doctor later this month and I may ask him what he thinks.

I get leg cramps too, and it's usually in my right leg. I usually only get them at night, when I'm laying down. I use to get them a lot when I was pregnant and would start to stretch my legs in the morning. That was along time ago, but they started up again a few months ago then stopped again. I've had the leg cramp that grips like a vice and won't let go, that's the kind that makes me want to scream out. I've heard of the quinine remedy, but I've also learned that it could be dehydration, certain meds, or overexercising. Believe me mine isn't due to overexercising! I've also heard it's due to low potassium, (eat a banana) or low eloctrolytes. Do you use your right leg more? Like stand on it more or is it a little longer or shorter thatn the left leg. Most people have a slight leg length discrepancy. I thought I was special when the dr's pointed out mine, then a tailor who ws hemming pants for me says he sees it all the time. He said usually the left is longer, and in my case it is too.....
Just some thoughts,

it sounds like we all need to seek some medical help in person, because these may or may not related, and there may be different things to do.  usually you are told to get some exercise so that standing on your feet is not such a burden to your circulatory system, so using your hands to do something should not lead to swelling one would think.  has your husband had his electrolytes checked lately?  does he eat fairly well?  with not too much salt?  and Susan, your cramps are different but sound painful too.  tonic water has been an old treatment for some kinds of cramping... why would one ankle be swollen?  did you hurt it in anyway?  my right hip feels like that, i take ibuprofen everynight just to get to sleep, and am trying to stretch in the am before work.  quinine water is very safe, it a base for mixed drinks and i think Canada Dry makes it.  i prefer tomcollins mixer with out the booze.

I didn't want to start another thread, so I hope I can be okay with honing in on this one.  I haven't really been having leg swelling, per se, but my right ankle is bigger than my leg one.  Just about every night when I'm sitting down in my chair and sometimes in the morning, too, I get these cramping feeling in my calf on my right leg.  It's not a full fledging screaming out in agony type of leg cramp (which I've had a few times before), but it's like it's doing these repeated mini-cramps, almost like it's getting ready to lead up to a big spasm.  It's only in my right leg, too.  If I start moving my foot with my toes pointed back towards my upper body, it seems to stop for a minute or so and then, it starts up again.  And this just keeps on happening.  Whenever I've gotten a full fledged spasm, I've been in absolute screaming out type of pain.  Fortunately, this big type doesn't happen too often.  Has anybody else noticed this happening?  My friend suggested drinking some tonic water for the quinine in it.  Is that safe to do?

my husband feet swell and so does his hands even if he just stands on his feet all day or if he bumps it on something. his hands swell just from handing a screwdrivin and screwing something with it. for instance we were putting up blinds the other night and his hands were swolen the next morning for using the screwdriver.

I have been off interferon therapy for 13 mths., relapser, and I am just now getting the swollen feet & legs.It doesn't make sense to me, except I do have Cryo and Neuropathy as a result of the interferons. (tried all 3 available). I am going to try Rituxin therapy next.

thanks. i actually saw this on my son, and he passed it off as an ankle sprain, who i strongly suspect has hep c and maybe other stuff from his years of living and i became alarmed as any family member would, and told him that he needs to take care of this really soon, without trying to sound pushy, i am sure he heard the caring, but it was scary...  unlike myself who wanted to find out exactly what was going on when i found out about my hep c but do i see his (understandable) fear around his health issues....  but i am going to encourage him to get seen by a doctor ...   thanks for your help. I am scared for him, but dont want to freak him out...

I was just reading from Bill and Tumbleweed about this.... Called it ascites

It seems that it's a big issue --- on the Community side in an Autoimmune Hep Post...

But I never experienced it.

If it gets too bad - please - see a doctor about it ok?

I have swollen ankles and feet but I attribute that to having broke my right legand left foot. But hep C can cause swelling in the extremities from what I have read
