Just because he has HepC doesn't mean he can't have flatulence or gall bladder symptoms or appendicitis or a heart attack or a number of other ailments that can cause pain.

"We just found out that my husband has hep c he is in stage 3 to 4. ...he came home and was in pain. Is this normal?"

If he is truly stage 3/4. He should have no pain. Even if he were in the early stage of cirrhosis (stage 4) he should have no symptoms other than fatigue as the liver is still able to perform all of its functions. It is only when the second stage of cirrhosis (End-Stage Liver Disease, Child-Pugh Class B) is reached that a person will develop symptoms and complications do to the amount of liver damage.

At stage 3/4 the only things he needs to avoid are substances that can be toxic to the liver. As Orphanedhawk mentioned. Alcohol, high dosages of analgesics such as aspirin, Motrin, etc. Certain herbs and supplements. Basically he should be living a healthy active life-style as everyone should.
As far as diet is really doesn't matter with the amount of liver damage he has. Of course if he is over weight then he should eat a diet that will help to lose the extra pounds.

He needs to try treatment in order to cure his hepatitis C and stop the progression of his liver disease. Changing diet or taking vitamins or anything else is not going to cure his hepatitis C. That should be his focus and goal. I should mention that will the extent of his liver damage it would be best, according to current data, to treat for 48 weeks to have the best chance of success treating.

Where you say "pain", what is the pain like? Where is it located? How often does it occur? Constantly, intermittently?
The pain is most likely not related to either his hepatitis C or liver disease.
If it concerns him he should get an appointment with his doctor.

Good luck.

What sort of pain?  Need to know if it's abdominal or other.  I have a good recipe for what I call my "poop soup"---if you want it, I'll share it.  It sure helped when I was having abdominal pains 5 years ago.  I haven't had them since.

Welcome.
I know this subject has been covered before.
Obviously, no alcohol, ever.
Low iron.
If he takes a multi-vitamin, makes sure its w/o iron.

Think of the liver as a filter. The liver doesn't have to work as hard if you are feeding it well.
So, lean towards healthy organic food. Avoid processed food.

Keep moving. Walking is fine. He can do as much as he feels comfortable with.
When he's tired, rest. Listen to your body but movement is good for all the organs including the liver.
Good luck
