TSH/Thyroid question

Have read many post on the forum from members that developed Thyroid problems on tx.

Does tsh normally go up on tx ? Or is it hep c that causes tsh to rise ?

My my baseline tsh was 2.94

Steadily on tx my tsh has gone up a little every couple weeks
End of 10th week, 3.69

New standards for normal tsh are .3 - 3 old ones are .4 - 4.5 ?  Little confused here.

Will  tsh go down after tx ?

Thanks for any info,

Interesting. My TSH has been going down for the past 12 weeks though it is still in the "normal" range.

as long as you are in range, ,5 to 5 your are ok.
it's going to move around some and you can chase that tail round and round trying to stay at 2 and always being a little over or un,

my doc advises just take an extra half pill once a week if i'm at 5 or 6...brings in down a little,...without changing the casic does...which can then have you way more over or und.

I forgot about 13 does one month,,and mine went up to 36..you do want to remember to take your meds.

Mine flip flopped around during tx and then went hypo.
My highest reading on tx was 6.45 (Normal is 0.40 - 4.50)
I did not take any meds.  At EOT it was 4.79.  My PCP rx'd Synthroid, but
it made me sick so I stopped taking it (I have a heart condition)
I just saw an endocrinologist who did more blood and advised me NOT to take the synthroid nor would she Rx it to anyone with my numbers.  She said she wouldn't be surprised if they were back to the normal range or almost normal in 2 weeks when I get my results.  But we'll see.  I hope they are. I'm 14 weeks post tx.

TSH started at 2.19 and has steadily declined to week 12 measurement of 1.47, still in "normal" range.

My TSH has been gradually going up for  a couple of years.  Just before I started Hep C TX, my TSH was 7.2 but I was not yet taking any thyroid meds.  Upper limit of normal is 5 for the local lab.  My GI doc sent me to an Endocrinologist who said I have "subclinical hypothyroidism" because I have elevated TSH but my other levels (T3 and T4) were normal and I didn't have any obvious symptoms so she decided not to treat me yet.

I started Hep C tx right after that and within the first week of TX my TSH rose from 7.2 to 8.2 and I started to have symptoms so my Endocrinologist started me on Synthroid.  Within two weeks I felt much better.  I'm not scheduled for a new TSH reading until 11-28.

Bascially, my Endocrinologist told me that for "subclinical hypothyroidism" they don't usually start treatment until the TSH reaches 10 or the patient has obvious symptoms.  So, you see, the TSH level does have room to go up above 5 without it being a problem.  Just have your doc keep an eye on it.

Mine went from 0.0 to three weeks later being 6.2 (hyper to hypo).

The doc put me on Synthroid and I'll be on it forever.  not much  of a tradeoff but SVR I guess was worth it.

Your doc will keep monitoring it and if the time should come put you on the meds. Hyper is much more dangerous than hypo.......but hypo is pretty unpleasant in itself.

Just make sure you keep having the tests - there is always the off chance it could iron out after treatment.

Good luck.
