TX & Libido & ALT/AST

OK, (blush), I'm going to pose a question that truly makes me appreciate the anonynmity of this forum.

How does tx effect male libido and ..........?  (and for that matter, I'm also interested in how it effects female libido and............) ?  If it impairs either, then what is the time line for it to return.

I've noticed that my very high ALT and AST levels since February [1000+ & 500+--and I realizesomething in addition to high ALT/AST could have been concurrently going on in my body (or mind?) during that time, although I can't think of anything besides stress] resulted in an erection that is very short lived and does not result in the goal one hopes to achieve.

However, in the past couple of days I've noticed a pleasant change from the past 3 1/2 months.  My ALT andd AST have come down quite a bit (down to 360/190 as of 4/29--and I'm betting  both have come down even further as of the past couple of days).

If this is TMI (too much information), and/or is inappropriate to ask on this forum, please forgive me.

Thanks for your help.

Great responses!

I have not begun treatment.

PortAnn, this is classic:  "Gosh, it's tough to want to get it on when you're an itchy zombie who's crankier than a colicky baby. There are times a vibrator may be a woman's best friend and this may be a heck of a lot better than a wild bologna pony. Can't speak for the guys. "

Better living through machines!

I'm started preparation of my application for a government grant. Sounds like Marcia2202 and Bill1954 might be willing the lead the study?

Antidepressants are notorious for adverse libido side effects.  My current AD, Effexor, had about a 12 months adjustment period. BTW, if you can use an AD other than Effexor, I recommend you look into the "other AD.  Effexor is a beast, in that it can be "very difficult" to discontinue usage.

The ancient Greeks blamed morning erections on goddess Eros’ habit of visiting men shortly after dawn.  I have noticed that during ALT/AST flair ups that Eros misses my crib. sigh.  A  study conducted in Italy found that men with HCV sufferer from impotence. www.natap.org/2002/august/081402_1.htm You gotta feel sorry for the effects of HCV on Italian Machismo!

Female and no problems with the treatment, except portann's illusion to not feeling real attractive after adding 10 years of age to appearance with treatment mummification.   The antidepressants will kill any ability to enjoy sex, though.  Wellbutrin actually enhances sex (but made me an insomniac paranoid lunatic), Celexa made me dead from the waist down and lexipro dulls everything so much it's 'why bother' time.

It's not that my libido is diminished, it's that I keep forgetting, or falling asleep. (41/48)

Most experience a loss of libido when treating.  Physical and psychological side effects contribute.  If you work and run a household while treating there is usually not a lot of energy left but certainly act when the occasion arises.

I think that ppl all react differently. Mine was for some strange reason enhanced by the treatment drugs. And even more so after finishing treatment.

Hep C, like any chronic illness, can cause prpoblems in libido in both genders. So can treatment and so can some of the drugs like the anti-d's. Hope the pleasant change continues....enjoy it.

You apparently have not read many poop or flatulence threads.  Nothing is out of bounds.  But, I suppose that does not fully explain the deleted threads that go poof in the night.
It almost sounds like a hypothesis which states rising and falling enzyme levels do so in reverse proportion to rising and falling other things.  Might have some merit. Now, to get some government funding to investigate it further.  Sound like what the Stimulus Bill was intended.
