I was wondering something. If some depression on tx is normal why not treat it? You are about to enter the "Twilght Zone", wishing you an easy ride.
I think I've written you before--everyones TX is as individual as they are. My hubby has been miserable since shot # 1 and he's only 10 weeks into the program. Now he's seriously depressed but refuses AD's. It's been super hard on me (his caregiver) but he does not seem to care at all. I know that's the depression/anger. Yet, as I point out to him, he has not lost his hair nor does he have the dreaded Riba Rash....to which he replied "yeah, but I have everything else". Not a happy camper. I just keep telling myelf "only 38 more weeks"--and as far as your smoking--well our hep doc told my hubby that he absolutelty should not smoke (he doesn't) or of course, drink alcohol (doesn't do that either). Ask your doc about the smoking. Might be a good time to quit a bad habit!
Good luck!
the sides from the first shot are all over the board. most do feel severe chills hours after the first shot. i would keep a heavy blanket on the bed as i shook so bad i could not get to the closet. it will be over in a few hours. as for long term it is anyones guess, moderite to holy sh%t, i can not take this.
long term is also a toss up, hope yours is better than mine. is still have problems 1 1/2 years later.
HI Bill.....I am genotype 3a was undetectable at week 4.....and had NO side effects whats so ever for about the first 10 to 12 weeks....I am taking shot 20 tomorrow and have felt side effects for about the past 2 months.....nausea,weightloss,minor hair loss but nothing unmanagable.....I have definetly been more easily angered.....good days and bad but it seems to me once you get started you will feel less anxiety.....you are at the point I was at.....trying to figure out all the sx and worrying like crazy.....the weeks following the start of this med was worse than the meds :) emotionally anyways.
WOW!
I'm on week 39 0f 72. I took prozac from months 5 through 8 and I stopped a couple of weeks ago. I do feel better, physically although I am slightly depressed again. But I'd rather deal with that than the marshmallow brain syndrome.
Interesting. DO you have any links to that info (the prozac adverse effect on liver stuff?)
Otherwise I'll google it.
wyntre
can you send the reference links for those tips?
Thanks,
Deb
same here, diagnosed in June, starting tx in 2 wks or less. If you are in a big town, see a hepatologist. If they specialize in Liver disease, they will know better and treat better. At least in theory. My town has a whole Hep dept. complete with docs and nurses that do JUST that. They will undoubtedly give better clinicals to insurance, meaning less hassle with that, and hopefully use procrit more freely...at least they said so, and I hope so.
No one skates through this treatment, but if you read all the possible side effects it can be pretty scary. However, the same is true of every other med out there, including common aspirin. Read the PDR (physician's desk reference) and they all become scary substances. You will always have one in ten thousand who has heart, liver, stroke or other probs brought on by even the mildest drugs. They report this along with the common side effects, effectively freaking out lots of people.
A. to avoid headaches stay off of vaso-dialators (coffee-tea-pop,etc.) as the normal rebound may be unbearable with the extra strain on the body already. In fact, since all drugs metabolize in either the liver, kidneys, or both, don't be on anything not essential to your health.
B. If you do get inordinately depressed (some depression is normal) then consider antidepressants, but NOT just because some people say to load up. I disagree here, simply because A. so many things effect seratonin levels, it's not gospel that you'll get depressed, you may if your work load doesn't allow enough rest, however, and B. antidepressants are hard on the liver (esspecially prozac, which is why they do liver function tests on people they put on it), so why go there if you don't have to.
C. do not consume ANY alcohol or marjuana, these are death to HCV suffers, causing fibrosis to escalate seven fold.
Thanks for being here everyone. I am due to start my tx in early Oct, i think.... My GI doctor told me that I had to get my baseline eye exam then he would set me up for the treatment training. Eye exam on Oct 2. I have only met my GI Dr twice. I don't even know what kind of follow up with Dr.'s I will be going thru.. Can anyone help me there? Also, are doctors good about giving meds to help with side effects--- I am being so careful about taking anything now trying to not make my liver any sicker...... is this necessary? ANY info for a newbie will be greatly appreciated..... I was just diagnosed in June.
please do! we are all in the same boat unfortnately.....all to different extents.
Anytime give me a hollar!
LOL
Thanks charm27, I WILL keep in touch with you !
I think I am fairly typical. 19 shots down. 1st 6 weeks, no sx's at all. Next extreme fatigue and brain fog. Tx is doable but challenging. it's not as bad as I had feared, but it's no walk in the park either. Load up on Prozac.
Please try to calm down first. Im in same boat I start in a week or two. AllI can tell you is what I know and was told and have seen from a few in a support group, in addition to that I have had HCV for over 20 years to Ive read ALOT!
1st shot possibilites- Fever, chills, aches, in morning. I was given Ambien to sleep thru sx first night. Some people will have sides others wont. Everyone is different. You can have very dry skin and possible small amounts of hair fall ou which will return after tx.
As far as the long haul of tx you can have, brain fog, rashes, fatigue, auto-immune problems,
my doc told me very bad headaches. They come and go thruout tx. Not an easy ride at all.
Everyone reacts different to meds. Hopefully you will be fine. I willl let you know how I feel in couple of weeks maybe it can help you out..
