Telaprevir, I love you ....

I finally got around to getting my post 1 yr PCR done. Good news, UNDETECTED !!!! Well actually it was around 1 1/2 yrs post. Since I was busy and NGI was shut down for awhile I put it off. I felt there wasn't any urgency since I was UND at 4,12 & 24 weeks during and post tx.

I think I can put this chapter of my life behind me now.

Anyone waiting to treat with the new drugs, I can personally say it will be worth the wait. The drugs work with a shorter course of therapy. I was a genotype 1a with a high viral load. I treated for around 30 weeks with Telaprevir included first 12 weeks.  I could have stopped at 24 weeks but I added a few weeks for good measure plus tapered off the meds. When I looked at all my tests after they were un-blinded I saw that my 8 mil viral load was gone within a week! The dragon don't stand a chance with PI's.  I hope my success can help others to hang in there. It is all worth it when you read the following.....

HCV Quant    Less then 2 IU/ml

HCV log10   Unable to calculate result since non-numeric result obtained for component test

PCR  Amplification + Detection Performed

NGI HCV UltraQual   NEGATIVE: HCV RNA NOT DETECTED

PCR assay performed using National Genetics Institute's validated, proprietary methodology.

I don't get here much anymore, and just read your thread!!  Congratulations!!!  You are part of a new vanguard group of treaters that have the benefit of inhibitor combos...and hopefully will leave you with not only the fantastic SVR  (CURE!!), but with far fewer after-effects and complications as compared to the standard tx.  Let us know how you feel overall, and here's hoping that you feel better than ever, and just keep on getting better as time goes on.  I wish you the very best.  Don't those test results just make your day!!!!  Celebrate and enjoy your life.

Thank you everyone. You guys are great. Many of you long time members helped me more then you could imagine.

Bali, I really only had to get the UltraQual. But I do everything over kill. My insurance pays for them so figured it couldn't hurt to get both tests.

robo229, No problems treating with Telaprevir. Minor rash, itching.

Inf/Riba, no problems except anemia around 13 weeks and they lowered the riba for a few weeks.

VL was 8 million at start gone within a week with the triple therapy!
Stage was around 1

It's amazing how time flies by.  Almost a year and a half!!

I remember you preparing, going thru and finishing.  Thanks for all the reports and sharing the news about this drug.  I think it is going to help many of us, save many of us, and drastically reduce those number of people waiting for a transplant.  Just think what the landscape will look like in about 3 years.

Wishing you the best,
Willy
