Telaprevir Views

So, my take on the Telaprevir 12/24/48 week course is that it is the initial bombardment of the virus and the many variants associated with it and the decreased initial surface viral load is promising while the next 12 weeks or extensions there of, of inf/riba do the clean up work of the deep rooted variants not responsive to the Telaprevir and in some cases cause rapid mutation within the bodies many hiding places that are not eradicated by either drug but the Ribavirin may be the third key to extend both drugs due to its shorter dosing cycle. Now, if what I have read about Telaprevir, I think.  another up coming trial will involve dosing Telaprevir either every 8 or 12 hours, not sure if this is correct or not, but did read somewhere.

Patients in this exploratory Phase 2a study received 28 days of telaprevir dosed in combination with peg-IFN and RBV, and subsequently received post-study therapy with peg-IFN and RBV through a total of 48 weeks of treatment. 24-week post-treatment (SVR24) data will be presented.

Initial bombardment with Telaprevir - non responders or people who have relapsed, because one or more variants may have responded to Telaprevir but not others in which case the viral load came down, but with the addition of interferon in combination with Telaprevir, UND was accomplished.

Mutation – because of the many variants of the virus and ability of it to invade, adapt, over come and reassemble it self while being killed off by the drugs it has the ability reconfigure itself back to its original state and replicate itself in some cases after the adaptability to the drugs chemical make up in which not all of the viruses genetic make up was destroyed and had reassembled it self through the various hiding places within the body untouched by the shorter dosing week period of Telaprevir in which the last part may be true that dosing every 8 hours vs. 12 may have great benefit in the overall scheme of things.
