Thursday Dinner Club

Hope this is not a silly idea, but I am going to cook something good from the comfort zone tonight, and humbly invite you folks to join me by doing the same.

Perhaps a Thursday night tradition?

Rules:

1. Dinner should be free of any HCV related conversation and thought. Put it away for awhile and try to enjoy yourself like you used to.

2. Must be one (or more) of your favorite things to eat.

3. Post what you are having so we can all get drooly thinking about it.

I can't resist this... I've been drooling, reading these.
We had pesto on pasta, with (flat) Italian beans; cider to drink; for desert, Russell Stover chocolates and leftover birthday cake.  Maj Neni

OK, I had a concoction that my mother-in-law fixed years ago and I thought it was gross until I tasted it, now I use this on 'quick fix nite"

package of hot dogs, 1 can tomato soup and 1/4 onion thinly sliced (optional):

cut hotdogs in half then slice them long ways, add tomato soup and 1 can water and onions in medium sauce pan and simmer until onions are soft and hot dogs are done......sometimes add a salad or grilled cheeze sandwich......if you like hot dogs and tomato soup you will like this quick fix....
This what we had for dinner last nite.

Doll, I knew the spare ribs and baby backs but I wasn't sure about the country ribs. I did look it up and cut and pasted the descriptions so I would never have been able to be that specific. I must say I have cooked one hell of a lot of ribs in my life as well as prime ribs and legs of lamb. I'm split between spare and baby backs depending on my mood. The country ribs are okay but not my preference.
Ken, as usual you're too kind but I do appreciate it. Good eatin' everyone .... and be well. Mike

Spare Ribs are the intact rib section removed from the belly and may include costal cartilages with or without the brisket removed and diaphragm trimmed. Spare Ribs shall contain at least eleven ribs.

Country Style Ribs are prepared from the blade end of the loin and include no less than three and no more than 6 ribs.

Back Ribs, also referred to as Canadian Back Ribs and Baby Back Ribs, originate from the blade and center section of the loin. Back ribs contain meat between the ribs called finger meat, and shall contain at least eight ribs.
Back ribs shall consist of at least 8 ribs and as many as 14 ribs. Generally, a rack of ribs will be 12 to 13 ribs. The back rib is the vertebrae section of the pork loin. When specified, the "skin" (peritoneum) shall be removed from the inside surface of the ribs along the intercostal meat

Roasted chicken thighs, spreading some Dijon mustard mixed with tarragon under the skin and roasting in shallow pan at 375 degrees for about 40 minutes or until done.
Serving with  fresh asparagus, microwaved covered for 4 minutes on high..I like it crunchy-tender; plus a salad  of Romaine lettuce with walnuts and Clementine sections (substitue orange sections if no Clementines) with Paul Newman's Blasamic Vinegrette and a few fresh parmesean cheese shavings.
I suggest a nice wine glass full of White Cranberry juice or Mejer's Sparkling Chablis (100% white grape juice).
For dessert..a gallon or four of your favorite ice cream.

This is such a sweet idea - thanks for doing this want2live and getting this thread started.

I am cooking a pot of vegtable stew for dinner this evening which my husband and I will probably nibble on for a couple of days afterwards. I am also making some homemade biscuits (ok they are Grands by Betty Crocker) and a cold cheese and tomato salad.

For desert, we are going to have a chocolate chip cookie with a wonderful milk chocolate/vanilla DOVE ice cream bar!!

Let's see since I have gianed SO much weight on tx 30lbs so far and everyone is away for the night I think I will have a ribeye steak on the grill (62 degrees in Nashville today) cooked medium and a tossed salad. I'll skip the bread though.

MikeSimon- did you really know the difference or did you look it up? and if you do know than that means you probably know how to cook all of them so when are we having a BarBQ at your place?

To supplement Mike's exhaustive definitions:

Spare ribs are what you typically get a rib house--lots of bone, meat on either side, slow cooked.

Baby-back ribs are smaller than spare ribs. Chili's or Appleby's makes a big deal of theirs. I can't taste any difference.

Country Spare ribs look like pork chops and, to me, are not "ribs". They can be cooked higher temps and shorter times than spare ribs.

When I think of ribs, I think spare ribs.

I have no idea of what I'm having for dinner tonight, but omelettes are high on the menu these days (Western omelettes most likely since there is a ham in the fridge) and salad. I used to be a good cook before everything made me nauseous.

This is a great idea!  I've really been having a problem these days with descriptions of dinner.  Set it in front of me,  I'll eat it, but don't describe it to me.   Reading through all these sounded wonderfull but has just about done me in for dinner tonight.  Sorry hubby, he'll have to make his own way through the kitchen.

Thanks to the thread (and to you, want2live), I have been inspired. Tonight we're having organic lamb sausages with browned onions, garlic smashed potatoes, peas, and a salad. (They were in the freezer).

I really like to cook, but these days it's just so hard. Can't wait till September (last shot 9/3, last riba 9/10).

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....dinner...............
I worked a 12+ hour day...
I called home and found that my family went out for dinner.
I stopped at an Italian rest. and picked up soup.

I am eating as I type...(my compute keyboard will verify this for me.)

LOL!

Ah....I forgot to get anything else.  Now that I am eating...I wish that I had ordered everything else on the menu!!!!!

May you have a wonderful dinner and a wonderful night!

Shebee

P.S.  My poor family.  Since I started working, they see VERY little of me.  I feel so bad because I am working so much....but  feel so good because they are doing ok.
