HEPATITIS C COMMUNITY
To momof2............

To momof2............

You may already know this......"Drug induced hepatitus (hepatitis)" is not a virus. It's a 'condition'.
I think there's alot of confusion over that on this board.

"Hepatitus (hepatitis) A, B, C, etc".....are viruses. (With viral loads that can be measured.) It's liver damage or inflammation as a reaction to a virus.

But "Drug induced hepatitus (hepatitis)" is not a virus. (NO viral load to measure or treat). It's liver damage or inflammation, as a reaction to chemicals. (Sometimes temporary).

And "Autoimmune hepatitus (hepatitis)" is not a virus. (NO viral load to measure or treat). It's liver damage or inflammation caused by the body's own immune system attacking the liver.

What they do have in common is symptoms.

Apparently, your doctor saw those symptoms (elevated enzymes), so he tested you for the virus. If the tests for the virus come out negative....the doctor will look for other reasons for those symptoms (such as "drug induced hepatitus (hepatitis)", or "autoimmune hepatitus (hepatitis)"). So he tested you for autoimmune hepatitus (hepatitis). If that test also came out negative, he will look for "drug induced hepatitus (hepatitis)" (a reaction to a chemical you have been exposed to).

If you had an operation in the recent past, you may have had to take several drugs (chemicals) following the operation. (?? I am guessing. ??)
If you DID take alot of drugs following your operation, they might have caused damage or inflammation to your liver. (That's called 'drug-induced-hepatitus' or 'chemical-hepatitus').
Sometimes, this is temporary.....meaning that after you stop taking those drugs, your liver returns to normal.
