Today's the Day!

Hello everyone!  In a few short hours, I will take what will hopefully be my LAST dose of Ribavirin EVER!  Last Monday, I took shot 24/24, have been clear since week 4, am 2b, and am hopeful that I've got it licked!

Anyway, wanted to ask you all about side effects.  I did pretty well throughout treatment - mostly dealing with fatigue and insomnia, nothing too outrageous or dibilitating.  However, over the last week, a couple of weird things have happened.  On Friday, I was at the grocery store and suddenly my vision got weird, like blurry around the edges, with flashes of light and color.  It got worse on the way home in the car, until I put my sunglasses on, and it was fine when I got home.  Haven't had a problem since, but it scared the bejesus out of me!

Over the last few days, I've also felt nauseous occassionally, particularly in the car (I've never been car sick in my life).  Also been feeling dizzier than usual. I guess my question is, how do you know if these are treatment related?  Should I be concerned?  It seems weird that I've never experienced these sx (except for dizziness) until now.

Well, I wouldn't say "sparkling" yet.  Let's go with "more livable."  :-)

...and when you've finished cleaning your house, do you think you pop over here and clean mine?  I still have 10 weeks to go and not in quite the same place as you, I'm envious of you (in a good way)
Your house should be sparkling about now.. enjoy:).

Thank you all so much for your comments!  Once again, this board has been a lifeline.  Anyway, I feel great today.  You know how I'm celebrating my first Peg/Copegus-free day?  Cleaning the house!  I've kind of let things get out of hand around here over the last 24 weeks, so what better day to start straightening up?  I really feel as if I'm more energentic today, though I'm sure it's just psychological.  Anyway, thanks to all of you - I'll continue to keep checking in and will certainly let you know about my 3- and 6-month tests!

By now you've already downed those pills.  What a feeling.   What a feeling !!  I salute you !!

I had the vision bluriness come and go all during treatment.  It seems like it got worse and more constant at the very end of my treatment time.  I wasn't dizzy at all but my eyesight was very very blurry and just not clear.  My vision is fine now after tx.

I am at week 38/48 and have experienced exactly what you have described.  I find I am now particularly sensitive to fluorescent lights so as soon as I see the flashing lights I take Ibuprofen which helps a lot.
Many congratulations upon completing tx - may SVR be with you always:).

Congratulations and good luck to you. I too had vision problems - blurred vision at times - but no flashing at all. My guess is that it's tx related and will correct upon discontinuation. If this is the first vision related side you've had I'd see an ophthalmologist to be safe. I would not take any chances with vision if I were you. Mike

Glad to hear your done!  Congrats on amking it though. As for the sx's I get the nausea blurred vision and dizziness too. I had it on tx and still do after over 3 months after. Still I do feel much better. I'm not sure if it's from lingering tx ar my burnt out thyroid but I surely would ask your doc about it. I hope you feel better soon. LL

I agree MichaelT that sx start to kick in more after 6 months. I had the vision thing that turned int migrains but it has all gone away at 4 months post tx

Layla, the nausea has left me and the dizziness is all gone, I think it is tx related.

Great news!  Congratulations on finishing up tx!!!!

My eyes were blury during tx and just last week I was given a new script to correct astigmatism.  The new glasses are really helping.  I can see better and the eye strain and headaches are getting better.  I don't know if I can blame this on tx, hadn't really even thought about that.  Maybe...who knows??  This is some wicked stuff.  Best wishes, caruu

Congratulations on finishing up!!  The sx's you listed are probably just now kicking in from having the meds in your system for quite awhile now and lucky you,,,,You are finished so you should be getting back to normal soon!  I started noticing more eye problems as far as things appearing blurry about week 38 and seems I'm needing my reading glasses more for things other then reading.  Also,,,have noticed towards end of my tx,,,more of nausea, dizziness etc.  Sometimes when I stand up,,,its like I kinda lose my balance for a minute,  Could be also just the drop we have in our blood counts and of course the meds,,,the meds LOL We can blame it on them!  So glad you are through and let us know how you are doing!

Most Optometrists can diagnose and treat complications from Hep C and Tx.  They are primary care providers!

My eyes have been getting blurrier since week 14. I had a similar problem the first time I did tx.
I just saw my eye Dr 2 weeks ago and she said that I was suffering from dry eye syndrome and that there had been some damage, she did not know if it would reverse after tx. But to use tons of eye lubricating drops.

I would recommend that you see you eye Dr just for an end of tx checkup, make sure you mention the blurriness and that you were on tx.

I had great vision before I started my first round of tx in Oct 2000, I'm 2B and did 24 weeks of Non-Peg Interferon 2B. After completion of tx I noticed my eyesight was getting worse. I compete in target shooting and notice that the bullseye was getting harder to see. I have had to get stronger glasses about every years since.

Congratulation on completing the tx from h*ll

Congratulations on finishing!!!

My vision got blurry towards the end. It has cleared up pretty well, though my vision has changed somewhat. In the weeks after I finished, I started feeling better almost immediately. The only side effect was a trembling in my hand several times per day. My dr. said it should go away and in fact it has. So, simply prepare to feel better, for food to taste good again, and to feel like you have energy again.

Once more, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Congratulations making it through treatment!

I don't think you should be too concerned about things, but it would be a good idea to have your eyes checked by an eye doc not an optometrist.

You are missing-out on a whole raft of sides that only kick in after about 6 months of treatment. So you are doubly fortunate!
