Treatment Outcome with High Viral Load

Hi,

I am new to the forum. I have been recently diagnosed with Hepatitis C. My viral load is 16.4 million. Has anyone with a viral load that high had success with triple medication treatment (Pegasys, Ribavirin and Incivek)? I will start on triple med treatment this Monday. I am hoping for SVR.

For many people the new medications (Incivek or Victrelis) will not out most of the virons. The key is whether you have a good response to the interferon and ribavirin which is needed to knock out the virons resistant to the new medications. Basically your chance with triple therapy is as good as anyone else.
best of luck,
Dave

Yes I was scared when I got my VL of 8 million. It seemed so high. The old protocol would consider that VL high and meant treatment for 48 weeks. I ended up doing a trial with Telap and virus was gone in less then 3 weeks. These new PI's kill the dragon FAST!

Thank you everyone. I have to admit when I was first diagnosed in July of this year I was stunned. A week or so later I got the viral load count and it seemed extremely high. After reading all of your replies, I am now much more optimistic. Thanks again!

You have a 75% chance which is up from 40% before addition of incivek

I forgot to mention that I am Genotype 1 and I do know that Genotype 1 does not respond as well as some other Genotypes.

To Ajw78757 and curiouslady1,

Thank you both for responding. This gives me hope that I, too, can beat this virus.

I had a viral load of over 20 million that went down to only 40 in one week and then undetectable by week 4. I am on week 8 now.

Shouldn't make a difference.  I had 13 mill and went UND in an all oral trial inside of two weeks.  If the drugs are powerful enough and fit your GT they tear through it like a house afire.
