Yeah, I couldn't find any info on just ribavirin. My nurse said no one in the study has ANY side effects. Kind of made me feel like a complainer, but thanks to you guys I now know I am not crazy!
Ps I was a crazy with on the RIBA that stuff hurt me more than the interferon!
Congrats Riv it looks like you really made it to me! That's worth any headaches and sides :)
Hi,
I finished with GS 7797 and Ribavirin 8/30/12
I did feel the riba and for me the worst was the irritability. I really felt like I was losing it at times. I don't think it touches what a lot of ppl here go through with interferon and the 3rd drug, but it was enough for me to be quite a mess. My nurse said most of the ppl in the same study complained of the same sx. I know that there are quite a few that didn't feel severe sx as well, from this forum, so maybe it will ease up for you.
Good news-it really is effective for gen. 2 Undetected at wk. 4 and still undetected 4 wks after. I think it is dead and gone. I think,,and pray.
Good advice about staying hydrated and do let the study Dr. know-they should be documenting this-mine did.
Good luck, it will be over before you know it. :-)
There are lots of side effects that are related to ribavirin however it's hard to find information about it that doesn't include interferon.
I know one of our members did the trial for 24 weeks and she experienced some of the same post tx side effects that I had even though I also did interferon. It had to be from the riba.
Good luck~
Thank you all for getting back to me. It is comforting to know there are others who care. I will keep you posted. Thanks again.
I had some headaches for about 5 days during week two. As I adjusted to the meds and my viral load dropped 4 log. Nothing since then. I am on week 7 now. No side effects at all. Undetectable by week two.
*** Report your side effect to your trial coordinator or trial leader. ***
They need to document these for their studies.
If you look at your trial paperwork it mentions headache as a side effect of GS-7977. I don't recall body aches, and fatigue. Hopefully what you are experiencing with disappear soon.
You have a good chance of cure especially as a genotype 2. I don't know if you have done peg-INF treatments but this treatment is a dream in comparison.
Hang in there. Hopefully this is a temporary bump in the road.
Keep us updated on your progress.

whoops! I didnt see till I posted.I was also on the interferon too.Sounds like you are in the same one as Hector..No interferon.I didn't have any Sx from it anyway. It was the Ribavirin that caused my Sx.

Hello lovedby2!!
I have been almost 4weeks from my End of Tx with the same Study that you are in.I am glad that you got into this study,it seems to be the one with the least sx.I can give you a few pointers on this Study. The first few weeks are going to be your hardest because your body will have to adjust to the meds.It is according to how your blood work turns out ,they may have to reduce your riba 1 tablet a day..The key to keeping the side effects away is to drink as many bottles of water as you can a day.If you look at my profile page and read all my Status that I reported you will see that I did really well with Tx.I took Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day for headaches till I was able to finally not have to take that many. The heartburn, they put me on Zantac 150mg twice a day and they had to raise them to 2 150mg twice a day.I would Consult them first before changing any doses first as always with any or your Meds while on Tx.All you have to do is call them anytime. As of now you will be seeing them every week for Labs,so anything you are not sure of or have any questions write it down.It was hard for me to remember alot because of the brain fog.I hope that this helps you and if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
Good Luck to You!
