Trigger point therapy for sides

by 4tunate1, May 01, 2003 12:00AM
Hello all,
Anyone familiar with using trigger point therapy (myofascial or deep tissue massage)to counteract sides of tx? It seems to be working for me...I was in the ER a couple of months ago thinking I had an embolism I had such pain in my L arm and wrist.
I'm a Pilates and fitness coach, feel I have a grasp on remaining physically balanced and usually pain-free (although lately the mental balance is way off Ü) and started tx. in very fit condition...started exploring this avenue in hopes of aleviating sides and it seems very effective so far. Makes a lot of sense, as well.
There is a book, available online (www.triggerpointbook.com)called "The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook" by Clair Davies, which is comprehensive and detailed and explains how meds (and life Ü) can interfere with the normal firing patterns of muscles and cause extreme referred pain...and how you can self treat with massaging of trigger points, how to find them and why...in the name of remaining sane through treatment I highly encourage each of you to take a look! Ü
My arm pain is greatly reduced and I now realize that I am a walking trigger point...and that it is gradually giving in to the toxic effects of tx. partially because of these stressed knots. No wonder, given what our bodies are undergoing! But, along with the water, deep breathing, rest (when we can manage it), positive thoughts, prayer, diet and exercise...this is a great tool!!
