Triple therapy and liver transplant

My friend has Hep c geno 1 a, he is on his 2nd liver transplant. He is rejecting again and the hep c is attacking his liver. Has anyone heard of the new treatment being used with transplant patients?  He is only 37 and a dad of 2 young kids. Please let me know any info anyone has.  Thank you.

Sorry to hear about your young friend. That has got to be difficult.

What do you mean he is "rejecting". Rejection in most patients can be manage quite easily. He must have particular issues that we don't know about or understand.  

Only a few transplant centers are putting post-transplant patients on the new treatment or a variation of it. For example, one of my best friends in doing a 4 week lead-in before starting telaprevir/INCIVEK to see if he responses to interferon and ribavirin. If not not point in starting INCIVEK as he won't SVR anyway. As of now there is no data as yet regarding SVR, drop out rates, dangers and impact of new liver, etc. Treatment in post-transplant patients is contraindicated for all three drugs. So this is cutting edge treatment and can only be done under supervision of hepatologists with expertise in both hepatitis C treatment and liver transplant.

All medical treatment for the rest of his life must go through his TP center first for their approval before and treatments, medical procedures, change of meds is done. He needs to talk to his transplant doctor to find out what options are available to him at his TP center.
