Trouble Sleeping

by Simon Le Ray, Dec 02, 1999 12:00AM
My wife has Hepatitis C with advanced cirrhosis of the liver and anemia.  She is currently take the Rebetron Combo along with the following medications:

Ultram - 50mg, 3 times a week for pain (taken with interfuron)

Triamterene/HCTZ  - taken once a day for swelling

Elavil - 50mg taken once a day

Hydroxyz HCL - 25mg, taken for itching

Spironolactone - 25m, taken once a day

Naproxen Sodium - 220mg, 2 at night

She is having a lot of trouble sleeping and she complains of pain in her joints, particularly her knees.  She only gets to see a specialist once a month through a 'free clinic' as she has no insurance.  She had been unable to get insurance after losing her spleen and a kidney ten years ago in an automobile accident.  Her family doctor who she does get to see more regularly has very little experience dealing with Hep C., can you suggest any medications that might ease her pain and help her sleep that we could discuss with her doctor?
