Tylenol vs Motrin

When I was first diagnosed, I was told, no tylenol.
Then with tx, I was told to take tylenol before each shot
to help alleviate the sx.
So with simple, yet horrible headaches, would you recommend
tylenol or motrin? Doc says Tylenol but no more than 4 pills
a day. (500mg tabs)
I am going to get some herbal rice bags, and sunglasses for
work, but in the middle of the night...what should I take?
And why do the drs say different things about the pain relievers for me to take??

Yeah, I will chill. When it came to HCV and all things TX a long time ago I decided to sort of put it all in a box. Part of the self-imposed guidelines were adherence to the meds, blood stuff, pcrs, other medical check-ups, etc. And, with that, observing 6 months for my 'real pcr'. I am able to let myself not worry now, but schedule the worry for a later date. I've perfected the art of self-delusion. It works for me.

Ya know, I think you're wise to chill on the ALT/AST and wait for the VL. Did you see the numbers posted by mikesimon? Those enzymes seem to float around a bit.

paris; take whichever works best. It makes no difference if you take one that was recommended by the dr as "safer" if it is not going to do the job. my dr said tylenol, but when i told her that did nothing for my pains, she said ibuprofen is fine. Use what works.

goof; it does seem as if the eggplants were pressing on your liver as they gathered in the bumper to bumper traffic.
the low enzymes results seem to indicate real good news! I think i am going to uncross my fingers now, it is a done deal. The printouts are just a formality.

My doc says to take two tylenol pm or extra strength tylenol before the shots and as needed. I also take vicoden for the severe headaches but hopefully that will go away soon so I don't have to take that. My doc also said if I prefer then motrin can be taken as well. They don't seem all that concerned with what is taken just as long as there are no interruption in tx. They did say no more than 4 tylenol a day. They also suggested taking either motrin, alleve or tylenol the day before shot, of the shot and the day after the shot. I don't find that quite necessary though. At least not yet.

Does anybody ever feel like their mind is going 100 times faster than your body can keep up?

I take the tylenol before the shot, it seems to help.
It does nothing for headaches. That is why I was wondering
what the deal was, since the beginning , (way back when) I was
told not to take tylenol. So I started with Motrin, if needed. I am not one to get headaches, so now that I do, it's quite bothersome, I am not used to headaches, and the tylenol not working was frustrating, plus the confusion of what is best for my body, since at this time I am trying very hard to due what is right, yet continue to get conficting messages from the doc. I see him today for bloodwork analysis, and can't wait to sit with him once and for all get clarification. also, the shot area on my thighs (which I prefer, is leaving scars) so I am wondering how can I go back to the stomach area, and actually stomach it...know what I mean?

There is an article that came out written by a doctor at the University of Tennessee Medical College and she details when the use of Tylenol is better and with which type of patients. Some factors are general health. likely use of alcohol and numerous factors. This is based on a study and sounded as if she knew what she was talking about. My doctor told me two hours before shots to take Tylenol Extra Strength and also if pain increases but never more than two every 6 hours. I take very few and lately none. I seem to hurt the same amount with them or without them. I think the UT article was on Janis and Friends maybe but you could look up University of Tennessee and the doctor specialized in Hep. Dale

Kalio,
Thanks very much for sharing your experiences. Especially your candid discussion about the difficulty of the second leg after recurrence.

I really hope this one is the charm for you. It seems that you are maybe viewing it as a second tx, where your Doc views it as an extension of the first?

Remember that link from cuteus about the 2 pts who cleared by controlled interuption of therapy? I wonder if more research has been done on that? Did notice whether the researchers names were attached.

My doc limited me to 3000mg of tylenol a day, too. I never needed that. My pattern was something like this:

Week 1: Tylenol PM with shot
Week 2: Tylenol PM 5 hrs after shot
Week 3: Tylenol 5 hours after shot, add 1 benadryl
Week 4: Move shot 8 hours earlier since sides start 6 hours after shot
Week 5-8: Shot probelms gone, new problems start (sleeplessness, nausea, fog, fatigue)
Week 8-26: Mostly just tired and stupid for the duration

No, most of the time I feel like my body is going 1000 times faster than my feet and balance can keep up though. I did have that problem until Doc put me on Lexapro and Ambien. I couldn't shut my mind down. Felt like I had a ticked of rattle snake in my head. Probably shouldn't have told that one:) Dale

My doctor said that tylenol is BETTER to take than advil because it doesn't change your blood chemistry. Tylenol in itself is not damaging I don't believe IF you don't take a LOT.Some people though take like 2 tylenol and codeines every four hours - so if you think of all THAT tylenol you are taking it's a lot.

I take two before treatment and find it does REALLY help.

PS I Love advil love it love it love it but am not taking any of it right now.

Glad you're squeezing out some good numbers. I had a 5 month post-tx endo run-down this week. The good news is that that almost everything in range, including dastardly sugar/AIC. That's after eating just about anything that doesn't move - and a few things that do, for a few months now. AST/ALT on the rise though. Now at 51/72. At EOT 29/37. Gonna chill on those numbers til pcr in a month. Sounds like those pains of yours were from a traffic snarl.

Algie: I'm tired of waiting on your 4 week results. If I worry twice as much about my own (when the day finally comes), I'm gonna need an uptick in the Ambien.

You are very kind.

Goldyn:I know that has to ease your mind a little

Yeah. I was pretty uncomfortable this AM. Tripping onn it made me sure my liver was ready to pop.

Fishy: Strator had me riding a steed, now you want me mounting an eggplant. You folks is qwazie. BTW, two words on being 3 weeks post-tx. 'Morning, Woodie!'

Goofy, I know you are glad the ALT/AST is good. My doc seems to tie elevated enzymes to increased viral activity too. You will be non-detectible, no problemo!

Paris, my doc said to take tylenol, but I have always found it pretty useless to get rid of headache. I asked about taking OTC naproxen and it was no problem. And it seems to work really well on my headaches. Didn't you just start treating? If you did the headache stuff will probably get better. My headaches right now have to do with a thick coat of yellow pollen everywhere!
