Update on Mouth Sores

About three weeks ago, I posted that I had these terrible mouth sores. It was causing me so much pain that I couldn't eat or even open my mouth. My tongue was covered with blisters, my cheeks and gums were so sore and my mouth had cracks at both corners.

My doctor sent an oral anti-fungal rinse and also something called "Magic Mouthwash" which has Lidocaine in it. It numbs your mouth so you can eat (and talk).

The oral rinses cleared up the inside of my mouth in TWO days! I was overjoyed and will never wait to call a doctor again. The mouth cracks, however, are still here.

The left side healed last week, but the right side just closed up today.  Every single day I wake up and run to the mirror to see if it's gone and every day I am disappointed except for today. So..HERE'S THE CURE if it happens to you.

1. Slather on Hydrocortisone cream on your mouth crack (don't laugh, I don't know what else to call it!). Rub it in and keep it on all the time. Put Vaseline on your lips. At night when you go to bed, put an anti-fungal on your mouth crack. Yes, this means that you have to buy the same medication that women use for yeast infections. Don't think about it, just do it. If you do this faithfully from the very start, hopefully it won't last as long as mine did. When I started using cortizone and the anti-fungal, it healed in a week. But it was TWO weeks before I put anything on it besides Vaseline. Vaseline doesn't work.

What causes it? The Riba and having a dry mouth.

I'm glad to hear you found some relief for your mouth.  I know you've really been suffering.  I hope some of your other sx have let up a bit.

A product called Oasis helps with the dry mouth - its a spray, sold OTC.  During the day I use a lip balm called Carmex for the cracks in the corners, but I'm gonna go get some of your antifungal and try that for overnight.  Did you need a scrip for Magic Mouthwash or is it OTC?

You must be getting pretty far along in tx - what week are you in now?

Glad you got them under control somewhat. I found the Magic Mouthwash saved me. I had the sores for over a year of treatment. The second I had a hint they were coming back, I'd hit the Magic potion to ward them off.
I guess not everyone gets them, just us lucky ducks!

Magic Mouthwash is by prescription. To hydrate my mouth I used Biotene mouthwash (no alcohol) and toothpaste. I also used Stopper4 (OTC). I rinsed 4-5 x/day with a solution of salt and baking soda (1 tsp each to 1 liter of water). It is very important to keep your mouth hydrated. When it dries out, it drops the pH and the bacteria really go wild. Helps to save your gums also.

Stevia extract works for a very effective mouthwash,it heals the gums too and sores fast.

I have had mouth sores also. inside is one thing, outside I have found that berts bees
has an ointment(lip saver) that clears up the corner cracks in about 24 hours.
