Update on Platelets taking Promacta
Hi
Just came from Drs  Platelets up to 101.  YEA!!  I've been on Promacta for just a little over 2 wks.  Hematology Dr said I could  start back on treatments.  Waiting to hear from Hep Dr  to see if I need to redo virus levels he was in surgery this morning. My RBC still a little low 3.45  MCV 101 (same as before) MCH 35.1> (33.9 last week) with the exceptions of platelets low but RAISING. All other counts in normal range.

Wow, this is very encouraging. Do let us know how treatment goes; I’m happy for you. If you get a chance, perhaps you could respond to this thread; the poster has been asking about eltrombopag, which is the generic term for Promacta:

Wow.  I was in a trial and only certain things were allowed but it would have been wonderful to bring the platelets up without INF reduction.

Will they allow you to continue on promacta if needed when you resume TX?

Thanks,  As far as I know the hematologist said I should be able too.  A year is not that long. LOL The concerns are platelets going to high or  when you stop they can fall completely out.  I am willing to give it a shot if it gives me a chance to clear this awful virus that has hold of my liver and proves to help others in the same position I'm in.  I will have to be monitored weekly for a undetermined time at this point.

I did see the thread and responded to it.  The doctor just called I start back on tx tonight.  My husband said he can't believe I'm happy about being able to go back on the meds 'm not looking forward to the sx but I do look forward to the day I can be told I'm SVR.  Go figure the way our minds work.

You should be glad they are checking you once a week. You dropped into the danger zone awful quick. I'm going every two weeks at this point. I think my neutrophils are probably still low and I'm already dose reduced. They stopped me the last time I was low 2 appointments in a row, but since I did my bloodwork on Thursday, and take my shot tonight, it will be too late when they get my bloodwork back tomorrow. I only have one shot left at this point anyway (after tonight's), so I really don't think anything that horrible could happen in a week anyway. With you being so early in treatment and having these things happen, be very glad they have you on a short leash. Good luck.

I am and good luck to you on your last few weeks.  Let us know how it goes.  I'll be thinking of you tonight as I do my shot and restarting my journey as thankfully for you as you are finishing this stage of yours.  I hope it's up hill for you now.

You will continue with the Promacta isn't that correct?

I take one each night 25mg before bed and will do so the entire treatment (part of the study).
