Update

Ok so I did what I could all weekend to keep the fever down. On sunday night it even rose to 104.8 that was tough. Yesterday I called my gastro and the nurse said he wouldnt be in until the evening and she would give him the message. Im getting so mad at that place. She finally called back and said he said go to the ER...  now I personally think if i had someone in my treatment on freaking chemo with a fever like that I would want to see them.
Theres no way Im going to the ER I like to stick with docs I know and that know me and besides my insurance copay for ER is $150...
I called my family doc (no different than an ER doc if you ask me) and he got me in right away.

I have a horrible kidney infection and he gave me a shot of antibiotics and a script for Cipro and wants to see me back tomorrow. Said if Im not doing any better he will have to put me in the hospital.
Im already feeling better than I was but still really sick and tonight is shot night.
Its hard since I have the only license in the house but my daughter has a permit but sometimes Id rather take the chance on my own driving than have to ride with her lol..

Thanks for all your alls advice and help!

Yes she drove me again. UGHHH she is basically genius status at book smarts NO common sense whatsoever. Took that after her dad lol

Ok doc said... Somewhat better, its only been 2 days so shouldnt have a problem knocking it out. Said they got bloodwork back and My infection started in my bladder and spread to my kidneys. Probably the immune system allowing it easy access from my tx.

He told me I am a very sick woman. Im like hmm who told you? lol

But YAY no hospital. Now I gotta go to sleep. Last night was shot #7 and had to actually move today. Im KILLED out!

Jankar - thank you so much. Like most I am learning as I go along but Thanks to this board and everyone on it most of the time I seem to be at least a half a step ahead.

I am glad you went to your GP - they are good because I have found that the gastros are not always available when you are sick and you often need immediate attention, as you did. I have done all sorts of combo things with pharmacies, phone calls, faxes and stuff because the gastros go home on Friday at 4.30 pm and I was not taking chances with my health whilst on treatment.  I also found that I had more knowledge of what was happening with me and they all needed a good hard push sometimes.  Take care of you.
Hope you get better quick.

Who's going to do the driving to the doc's tonight?

I had a lot of trouble being comfy with the kids driving me anywhere but I'd take a deep breath and try to keep my mouth shut, especially about the baby-finger steering wheel technique that my older son practiced.

And it's been fourteen years and no accident ever for those guys. In fact, I'm beginning to think they just might be better drivers than I am.  I hate to give them that.

I'm relieved you got on this so quickly. It was big-time serious. Treatment can sometimes hide emergencies, as you learned the hard way. Thanks for reminding me that tx sx don't explain everything.

I know you won't give up, even though you had to tackle this crazy kidney infection. I've only ever had a bladder infection and couldn't believe how bad I felt.

Take good, good care.

Love,
Port

Wow! Sounds like you've had an awful time. I'm glad they figured out what was wrong and that you are on the mend.

One of the (many) problems with tx, is that any time you develop any sort of symptom you assume it's related to the treatment. It's perfectly natural given the wide range of issues the treatment causes. But sometimes it's not. Oy! This is so complicated.

Hope after this ends you have smooth sailing for a few weeks or months. You deserve it.

I'm glad that there was a reason so that you could get better :).  I've never heard of interferon causing a reaction like that so it was confusing and at least now you know you just had some bad luck - two things at once and you don't have to be afraid of doing the INF next time.

As always, take two tylenol with the shot to help offset any fever you might get but it sure should never be that high! We always want to attribute everything to treatment but this is another good example that not everything is!

****- with a fever of 104.8 I’d be incapable of driving anywhere! It’s a good thing you arranged to get in to see a doc; that’s scary hot, especially for and adult. Take good care, and let us know how things proceed—

Bill

My kids are in their twenties and thirties, and I’d rather pay for a cab than drive with them; STILL :o)!

I didn't think a fever that high would be from the interferon.  I'm glad you got it taken care of. Get well!

Was the fever constant or just in the evenings?

Well like your other post said, I also had a mild low grade fever for a week or so. On monday I saw the gastro and he told me not to worry about it until it got over 101. I really didnt keep up a constant check on the low grade fever but when the high fever hit it was constant. up to 103 or more... down to sometimes 101 but always there.

Usually fevers means an infection somewhere but on the tx its tricky to know. I think thats why he said not to worry unless it hit over 101.

Maybe it just means your one hot momma! hehe
