Vaccine Do you need it?
Yes! Your chronic liver disease puts you at risk for serious complications if you get infected with the hepatitis A virus. If you’ve never been vaccinated against hepatitis A, you need 2 doses of this vaccine, usually spaced 6 months apart.
Yes! Because of your chronic liver disease, you need to be vaccinated. If you haven’t had a series of hepatitis B vaccinations, you need 3 doses of this vaccine. If you started the 3-dose series earlier but didn’t complete it, you can simply continue from where you left off. Ask your healthcare provider
if you need screening blood tests for hepatitis B.
Maybe. You need this vaccine if you are a woman age 26 years or younger or a man age 21 years or younger. Men age 22 through 26 years with a risk condition* also need vaccination. Any other man
age 22 through 26 who wants to be protected from HPV may receive this vaccine, too. The vaccine
is given in 3 doses over 6 months.
Yes! You need a dose every fall (or winter) for your protection and for the protection of others around you.
Maybe. You need at least 1 dose of MMR if you were born in 1957 or later. You may also need a
second dose.*
Maybe. You need this vaccine if you have one of several health conditions* or if you are age 19–21 years and a first-year college student living in a residence hall and you either have never been vaccinated or were vaccinated before age 16.
Yes! This vaccine is specifically recommended for you because of your chronic liver disease. If you haven’t been vaccinated, you should get 1 dose now. You need a second dose when you are age 65 years or older, provided at least 5 years have passed since your first dose.
Yes! You should get a 1-time dose of Tdap vaccine (the adult whooping cough vaccine). After that you need a Td booster dose every 10 years. Consult your healthcare provider if you haven’t had at least
3 tetanus- and diphtheria-containing shots sometime in your life or if you have a deep or dirty wound.
Maybe. If you’ve never had chickenpox, never were vaccinated, or were vaccinated but received only
1 dose, talk to your healthcare provider about getting this vaccine.*
Maybe. If you are age 60 years or older, you should get a 1-time dose of this vaccine now.

My doc told me to get Zostavax before treatment. I am under 60 and at the time it was only approved for 60 and over, so my insurance wouldn't pay for it.  Now labeling is 50 and over. Check with your insurance - the price of the vaccine was $299 when I got it. I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but if you haven't had chicken pox, you don't need the vaccine for shingles.

Frontrangemom is right. Shingles is a reoccurrance of chicken pox. Only those that have had chicken pox as a child possess the virus for recurrence.  It is nasty, my father in law had it. he was cranky before the shingles, If I told you how he was with shingles I would be censored and kicked off.

LOL........Not at all.
The question was not answered. It was about the Shingles Vaccine only, (pre 60 years old).
All the rest was info on recommended vaccines for Hep-C'rs
Didn't mean to sound abrupt. That's why I hate email............true meaning does not come out. Gets you in trouble sometimes...............
Thanks

This is NOT a question for while on TX..............This was posted to ask if anyone knew if they are giving Hep-C patients, (pre and post), the Shingles Vaccine before the age of 60 which is standard protocol.

I know you DON'T vaccinate during TX. I had heard that under certain circumstances, they will know give the Shingles Vaccine sooner than age 60.

I am no way an expert on this subject!

I also wanted everyone to see the suggested Vaccines that are Hep-C related.

My Dr. told me no vaccines whatsoever during tx.  I had the two shots for the twinix HepA/HepB and he told me not to get the third shot until after tx.  So I would definitely talk to your Dr. before getting any vaccines during tx or waiting for 6 mo SVR.

I was a street paramedic for many years and I got a real good feel for those that were in real pain and those with possible ulterior motives, and the people that were in the most pain that I ever saw were those with kidney stones and those with shingles. If you ever had chicken pox, you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting shingles. I asked my doc because I figure I have gotten everything else, why wouldn't I get shingles?...Mark

Sounds like the right thing to ask doctor. I have enough medicine in me right now. Skeeters don't even want my blood.

I know, you are OH, I think the post is about shingles. I was telling Jon to much info for me tonight. Brain is fried from weekend. Perhaps I chose wrong venue to flit.  I had chicken pox and saw commercial on vaccine or shot or something this weekend and wondered if I needed to look into that.  Also what about the flu shot while on tx? I usually don't get the shot and usually don't get sick during the year.

I'm not tmi nor am I an expert on this but you I don't think you want to take the vaccine while on tx, and if you/re SVR you no longer have hep C making the need for the vaccine due to hep C  moot.
