VX 950, and other trials

by Chrisam7, Jul 06, 2007 12:00AM
Hi ya-all, hope all is well!
My question, What's the final word on VX 950 ? Does it really work with ribivirin, and interferon ?
I've treated Hep C for 4 yrs straight without a break, and to no avail.= {Genotype 1, Non-responder}. It's been a "very hard ride"!
Anyway, are any VX 950 trials being still being conducted, and if so, where ? How about any other trials ?
My viral load topped 100 million 3 yrs ago , and my liver function tests aren't looking well at all, so any info. you could reply with would be "greatly appreciated" !
Also any alternative treatment ideas that show promise would be appreciated as well!
Thanks again, get well, and stay well, Chrisam7

I think the Prove II trials for non responders and relapsers is closed.  I don't know when they are starting another one and who it will be for.

Chris,

I am relapser on Prove 3 VX-950 study phase II and have great hopes that it will work and put this to rest once and for all. Phase III will start in 4th quarter and encourage you to start looking now if you desire to get in to one of those groups. The name of the drug is 'Telaprevir' and is on 'fast track' via FDA which is 3-5 years I understand but depending on who you listen to it could be as close as we currently have to a cure. About 90% are SVR'ing is my understanding but I've seen other numbers that are less. Obviously i hope in the better numbers since I'm in the study. I will know in 2 weeks if I get to continue in the study (i.e. qualified to continue due to double log drop in VL) and will continue from there if all is well. That's about all I know but do know that there are other VX-950 tx'ers on these forums and may have newer updated data to read about. The last I heard was a pitch to a investment group on building the company around the drug as they felt that strong about the results it would produce and their stated  goal at that time was to build the company around that drug? Amazing you've been tx'ing for so long and amazing that you've been able to continue. Interferon is so good for you liver that if you can handle the sx then keep going as it is buying you time for sure.

Good luck!
