Varices

I have noticed small blood vessels in the back of my throat. I do not have a sore throat. They may have been there all my life, but now that I know I have hep c I am wondering if they could signal the onset of esoph. varices.
I have not had any bleeding thus far. Pat

Thanks for clarifying for me. With all I went through, somehow I was spared varices.

Pat, you might want to discuss EGD with your doctor. It's unlikely you have developed varices outside of cirrhosis; they're a product of portal hypertension that occurs when the scar tissue gets to the point blood can no longer flow regularly through the liver causing collateral blood flow. Still, an EGD can look in there and see if there are any problems devloping. I was stage 3-4 per biopsy, and my doctor did climb in there for a peek.

Good luck-

I could be wrong but I think varices don't show up unless you have cirrhosis.
Hep C by itself is not the culprit.

Varices form lower down in your esophagus where it joins the stomach. You would not see those in your throat. If you are concerned about varies, talk with your GI doc to see if a gastroscopy in indicated.
